The weather was again very warm and seasonal most of the week and good to get out running with many events taking place locally and further afield. The Wesham Trail Running Championships continued in the Sabden 6 Mile Trail Race on Wednesday evening; Paul Gregory finished 35th; with a time of 43:27. Steven Gore finished 53rd in 45:09; Elliott Costello was 94th with 49:30; Ryan Azzopardi placed 19th in 59:20; James Danson was 182nd with 62:50. Vicky Gore finished 47th woman in 63:15, 10th W40 and 184th overall.
In the fourth round of the Inter Club this Tuesday on the hottest day of the year so far Rob Danson returned to running following knee problems in the Thornton-Cleveleys hosted 5-mile race on the Norbreck North Shore cliffs and romped away to an easy win. Steve Swarbrick came in 5th and David Taylor was Top 10 to secure Wesham a team victory. Tess Robinson was the leading woman and Carmel Sullivan returned to action with a Top 10 place, taking the women to 3rd team, with the Masters’ team finishing 2nd. Helen Lawrenson ran the second Horwich Jubilee 5-mile race on Wednesday evening; she finished 6th woman and 1st W45 in a time of 34:36, in 54th place overall. Stephen Browne was 98th and 12th M50 in 37:10. Martin Bates finished 121st and 6th M60 in 38:43.
175 runners tackled the Hawkshead 10k this year, midsummer glory in the third race in the Kendal AC 10k series. James Mulvany was on good form and he finished 6th over the undulating lap skirting Esthwaite Water and passing through Near Sawrey in a time of 36:01, placing 2nd M40. David Taylor ran well for 8th place a minute behind in 37:00. Phil Leaver came in 103rd in 49:10, 7th M60.
The challenging Whinlatter 10k above Thornthwaite north of Keswick took place on Saturday evening unusually. Paul Gregory finished 4th in 43:57 while the distance was somewhat short of the advertised 6.2 miles with an undeclared height of ascent. Steven Gore was 11th in 46:20 with Elliot Costello 24th in 51:10. Ryan Azzopardi finished 49th in 58:38.
There was no Lytham Hall parkrun this weekend due to the Club Day so the home run for Wesham became the Blackpool run in Stanley Park. Steve Swarbrick recorded the fastest time of the day with a terrific 16:55 for an M45 age graded performance of 83.84% and a new personal best performance to boot. Lee Barlow had the 4th fastest time with 18:14 for M45 78.34%; Carl Groome whipped round in 19:27 for M45 75.24%; Helen Lawrenson was the third fastest lady of the morning with 21:17 for W45 76.90%; Jonathan Lawson ran 21:50 and an M50 grade 67.56%; John Burns scored another good time with 21:53 for M60 75.25%; Stephen Browne clocked 22:16 for M50 67.29%; George Kennedy a good run with 22:29 for M60 71.31%; Peter Cruse ran 22:31 for M55 68.25%; Dave Marsland slipped in with a good 22:39 for M60 72.04%; Rob Wallace ran 22:58 with a senior 56.17%; Sharon Cooper 23:06 for a new personal best with W40 68:11%; Phil Leaver a new PB with an M60 70.86% with a time of 23:27; Kay Twist ran a new personal best time of 24:25 for W45 67.03%; Martin Allison scored 24:39 for 53.21%; Dave Young recorded an M70 69.11% with his time of 25:31; with Stephen Twist the same time and an M50 grade of 58.26%; Graham Cunliffe had an easier run with 26:15 for M60 62.16%; Andrew Moore came in with 27:46 and M55 55.82%; and Sue Rigby W40 52.10% with a time of 30:12. In the Preston run in Avenham Park Robert Brown ran 25:39 for an M60 grade of 62.51%; Ann Knowles had a time of 34:21 and W45 47.16%; and Lynn Brown ran 34:29 for W55 53.21%. the parkrun tourists the Gores squeezed in the Hyndburn before heading up to Winlatter for the evening 10k. Steven and Vicky Gore ran together for 28:13 and 28:12 with Vicky’s W40 54.96%. Megan clocked a JW11 48.97% with her time of 33:58. In Market Harborough in Welland Park over an out-and-back and 3 laps Peter Rooney ran 31:12 for M55 50.96% and Julie Rooney a time of 31:27 for W40 50.03%. Martin Bates took in the Bolton Leverhulme Park run and he ran 24>25 for M60 66.28%. James Mulvany had a debut run in Witton Park in Blackburn over the undulating two lapper taking in the best of the woods, running 18:50 for the second fastest time of the day with M40 72.48%.
