This is what it’s all about! Kath nips over a handy fence on Parbold
Kath Hoyer ran the Parbold Hill Race on Saturday, covering the 6 miles in 1:03:18 finishing 27th woman and 1st W55 with an excellent run. An old historic race it follows the traditional pattern of racing up the nearest hill, and this event is the obvious target from Liverpool and Merseyside, being the first tract of upland northwards and the obvious significant hill, it and does see a large turnout from Liverpool clubs. There were 461 competitors in this sold-out event.
Steve Littler finished 13th in the high-quality Wrexham Half Marathon amongst a field of 2373 runners In a time of 1:12:50 to take 2nd M45 position.
Angela and Chas Colby ran the Silverdale Circuit from Arnside round the limestone ridge with 20 miles of low level but hilly running with a full ascent of the Knott itself on Saturday in glorious conditions, coming in joint 98th with a time of 5:14:25, a great run.
Ugis Datavs ran the North West Half Marathon in stiffer winds along the relentless Blackpool Promenade on Sunday finishing 11th and 32rd M35 in 1:19:43. David Taylor came in 17th in 1:21:13 and Simon Denye placed 27th in 1:23:47 for 3rd M45. Lee Nixon had another personal best this time over the 13.1 miles with a time of 1:36:15. Rob Wallace ran1:42:30 for 170th position with Thomas Farquhar 215th with 1:44:21. Ben Wrigley finished 284th in 1:40:18 and David Millar came in 403rd with 1:56:39. Wesham had a good turnout at the Preston parkrun on Saturday morning on the hilly but fast 3-lap course in Avenham and Miller Parks David Taylor was the fastest runner for Wesham completing the run in 19:56 for a age graded percentage of 65.22%. Steve Myerscough pounding out the miles to recovery ran 21:06 for an M45 age grade of 67.22%. Nigel Shephard clocked 21:20 as he battled it out for a new personal best producing an M60 grade of 75.16%. Emma Lund paid a visit to Preston and ran 22:33 for W35 66.30% although her course best was two and a half minutes faster than this. Sharon Cooper clocked 24:43 for W45 64.26% and Robert Brown 26:05 for M60 62.04%. James Danson recorded 26:33 for M50 57.38%. Martin Bates was out at Worsley Woods in north west Manchester and ran 22:52 for an M60 grade of 71.36. Paul Boustead was the parkrun tourist of the week with a visit to the Eveshan run along the Avon riverside at Hampton Ferry where he clocked 22:34 for M35 59.60%. At the Lytham Hall parkrun, cancelled for the last two weeks due to adverse weather conditions there was a strong turnout and Ben Wrigley was the fastest Wesham member in 23:12 with an excellent run for an M35 grade 57.97%. Suzanne Leonard ran a new personal best of 23:29 for W45 69.69% paced by George Kennedy who also ran 23:29 and an M60 grade of 68.91%. Regular Jonathon Lawson clocked 24:05 for M50 61.73% and Peter Rooney had 24:37 for M60 65.13%. Martin Allison stopped the clock at 24:50 for M35 53.09% and Graham Cunliffe got back to rights with 25:27 for M60 64.11% after having a troublesome calf for several months now. Andrew Moore ran 26:12 and M55 59.67%; Jo McCaffery 27:49 with W40 55.30%; Stephen Twist ran 28:23 for M50 52.79%; Phil Leaver still with breathing problems ran a decent 28:25 and an M65 grade of 59.00%; and Keith Wilding recorded a personal best while also providing pace-making running 28:56 for M60 55.93%. At the Blackpool run in Stanley Park Arran Galvin clocked a swift 19:44 for an M35 grade of 68.16%; Rob Wallace 24:35 with a Senior grade of 52.47%; and Finlay McCalman on home ground with a time of 27:15 for M50 55.90%. Along the Fleetwood Promenade Mark Renshall finished in a speedy 19:36 for the fastest Wesham time of the day and an M45 age grade of 72:36 and a new personal best time with a superb run. Dave Marsland ran an easy 39:00 in a support role for M60 42.22%. At Storthes Hall near Thunder Bridge on the outskirts of Huddersfield the travelling Gores hit 22:33 for Steven with an M35 grade of 59.20%; Elliott Costello ran 24:29 for 52.69% as he racks up his marathon training; and Vicky Gore clocked 29:53 for W40 52.26%.
