Catforth 10k was run on Sunday morning in blustery conditions but the rain of the previous day abated. David Taylor was Wesham’s first finisher in 4th place with a time of 36:08, a The good run. Garry Barnett was 7th and 1st M50 in 37:52. Steve Myerscough was 9th and 1st M40 in 39:21. Nicola Unsworth was 5th woman, 1st W45 and 24th overall with 46:17, with Roger Leadbeater 26th and 3rd M55 in 46:51 and Tracey Hulme 6th woman 1st W50 and 27th in 47:13. Sharon Cooper finished 7th woman, 1st W40 and 31st overall with 49:15 with Phil Leaver 33rd 2nd M60 in 49:25 having just returned from holiday. Ben Wrigley was 38th in 50:49 and Vicky Gore 11th woman 3rd W40 and 41st with 51:39. Dave Marsland finished 46th and 3rd M60 in 52:04 with Kerry Eccles 16th woman and 48th in 52:14. Robert Wallace was 56th with 54:04; James Danson 59th and 3rd M50 in 54:14; Debbie Myerscough was 25th woman 3rd W50 and 67th with 56:19; and Paul Carter 86th in 1:03:21
The Two Lads Fell Race at Horwich on Thursday evening was the second fixture in the Inter Club Fell series. Wesham had a modest but respectable turnout, with Paul Gregory leading the way in 35th place with 40:42 for the 5.25 miles and 900ft climb. Steve Myerscough was 50th and 10th M40 in 41:58. John Collier just edged out Nigel Shepherd in a sprint finish on the final descent after swapping places during the race, coming in 79th and 1st M60 in 45:50, with Nigel 80th in 45:51 and 5th M55. Martin Bates finished 96th in 47:55, 3rd M60. Jen Salt was 10th woman in 51:59, 4th W40 and 116th overall.
David Taylor finished 5th in the second Astley Park Trail series race on Wednesday in 25:56 for the 7.4km though the park on the woodland trails with some testing ascents. Garry Barnett was 10th in 27:11, 1st M50, with Lee Barlow 14th with 27:54 coming in 4th M40. Simon Denye was 32nd in 29:42, 10th M40. For the Wesham women Helen Lawrenson was 4th woman in 30:23, 2nd W40 and 40th overall; Nicola Unsworth was 8th and 5th W40 in 32:28, 61st overall; Tanya Barlow 28th and 11th W40 with 39:00, 115th overall.
Ugis Datvar took an hour off his previous time in the Bolton Hill Marathon on Saturday in wet and windy conditions from Moss Bank Park up and over Winter Hill along Anglesarke to White Coppice and back, to finish 7th this year with a time of 3:29:55, 1st M35. Jenn Thompson ran the Keswick Mountain Festival 10k Trail Run finishing 117th in 1:01:40, 40th woman.
Mark Renshall was the first Wesham runner at the Blackpool parkrun in 21:01 with M40 66.93%. Nicola Unsworth ran the fastest women’s time of the day with 21:37 for a W45 performance of 74.17%. Jonathan Lawson clocked 22:37 for M45 64.70%. George Kennedy ran 22:47 with M55 69.79%, and Rob Wallace 27:09 with 47:51%. Robert Brown ran the Preston parkrun in 24:59 for M55 63.64%. David Taylor logged another second fastest time at the Birkenhead run with 17:42 for a performance grade of 73.07, with Steven Gore 19:52 for M35 66.78. Megan Gore ran 36:32 for JW10 46.72% and Vicky Gore also a time of 36:42. Martin Bates ran Worsley Woods in Manchester with a time of 22:12 for M60 72.22%. Megan Gore ran 11:09 in the 2km Avenham Park Junior run on Sunday with a time of 11:09 for JW10 55.40%.
