Kath Hoyer climbs the main ascent from Worsthorne in glorious sunshine

 

 

It was a quieter week locally for athletics as the holiday season continued in full swing but Wesham members as usual managed to find enough to keep them active after the excitement of the Inter Club race last week.

Paul Hetherington continued his quest for a 10-mile best and he headed a Wesham squad in the Lancaster Riverside Run, 10 miles from the Waterside up the Lune Valley towards Caton, then back again and across the river to the Trimpell triangle to return to the waterfront. He finished 7th overall and 1st M45 in 62:22 in hot and humid conditions. Carl Groome finished 23rd and 3rd M45 in 68:14. James Danson was 104th with 86:27 and Maureen Danson 26th woman and 126th in 91:48. Kerry Eccles came in 32nd woman and 134th in 93:46 5th W55.

Anne Berry ran the third and final Cuerden Valley Badger Trail 10k Run on Thursday night and she finished 26th woman and 97th overall in 59:30 in the hilly multi-terrain figure-of-eight course that now features a water crossing in the second kilometre.

Steven Gore ran the Worsthorne Moor Fell race on Sunday, finishing 46th in 54:29 on a very warm day. Kath Hoyer was 1st W55 and 13th woman in 1:03:58 placing 88th overall.

Daniel Shaw ran the Kentmere Horseshoe Fell Race on Sunday, and he finished 209th in a time of 2:45:59 for the 12.3 miles and 3300ft of ascent. Mark Renshall was close behind in 207th place with 2:47:46.

At the Lytham Hall parkrun Simon Denye clocked a swift 18:48 to score an M40 age graded performance of 74.82%. Carl Groome had the next fastest time with 19:07 for an M45 grade of 76.55%. Jason Blagden ran 20:43 for M45 68.95% and Stephen Twist 24:08 with an M50 61.60%.  Graham Cunliffe scored 25:37 for M60 63.70%; Diane Blagden ran 27:20 for W50 62.87% and Antoinette Holton 27:51 for a senior grade of 53.38%.  Finlay McCalman ran 28:21 to grab M50 53.73%; Peter Rooney 28:29 for M55 55.82%; Julie Rooney 29:04 with W40 54.13%; and Debbie Bell had a time of 34:47 for W45 45.66%. In the Preston run David Taylor was the 2nd fastest of the day with 18:24 for 70.57%. Nigel Shepherd ran 21:13 for M60 75:57%; and Jonathan Lawson 22:11 for M50 66:49%. The Gores headed to the Cannock Chase run for Steven’s 100th parkrun venue worldwide to join a UK el;ite of 234 runners. Megan Gore ran 37:01 for JW11 44.93% supported by Steven and Vicky Gore for 37:01 and 37:02. James Mulvany clocked the fastest time of the day at the Catterick run with 17:36 for an M40 grade of 77.56%. In the Blackpool run George Kennedy clocked a good 22:21 for M60 71.74% and Dave Marsland had 23:19 for M60 69.98%.  Andrew Moore ran 27:04 for M55 57.27%. The Fleetwood Promenade run had its inauguration with 158 runners and Mark Renshall ran 19:57 for an M45 71.09% grade and his first 5k distance under 20 minutes. Peter Cruse clocked 20:56 for M55 74.04%;  Martin Allison 22:16 for M35 59.21% and Rob Wallace ran 22:34 with 57.16%. Dave Young racked up his 100th parkrun with a time of 25:11 for an M70 grade 70.02%. Jo McCaffery had 27:59 for W40 54.68%; James Birchall 29:49 with 43.32%; and Brian Jones ran 33:38 for M55 46.48%.
