Paul Gregory attacks the Autswick Amble on another unseasonably hot Bank Holiday.
The first Wesham Summer 10k attracted 220 runners on a warm sultry Wednesday evening last week. Won in an impressive 31:23 by Ben Fish accompanied by a strong contingent from his club Blackburn Harriers. The first Wesham finisher was in-form Lee Barlow in 18th place with a time of 36:37. Ladies winner was Tessa Robinson in 37:59 running in Wesham colours with Mark Belfield 32nd in 39:18. Paul Gregory came in 42nd with 40:18 and Jason Barlow 45th in 40:45 in the oppressive conditions. Andrew Harling finished 50th in 41:05 and Carl Groome was 53rd in 41:36. Thomas Crabtree was close behind in 55th position with 42:09 and Simon Denye was 60th in 42:42. Neil Whipp came in 70th with 43:26 and Lee Nixon was 74th in 43:44. Leigh Doughty finished 80th in 44:59 with Rob Wallace 83rd in 45:55. In the first of the three-race series of the Catforth 5k Lee Barlow finished 2nd in 17:46, an excellent performance for the Wesham chairperson placing 1st M45. Paul Gregory was 12th in 18:53 and Sean Murray 26th in 21:58 with Richard Davies chasing all the way to the line with 22:01 for 26th place and 2nd M55. Ben Wrigley came in 30th with 22:14 and Alan Hudson 1st M65 and 32nd in 22:32. Sharon Cooper was 5th woman and 2nd W40 in 22:56 for 37th overall, her parkrun efforts paying off. Tanya Barlow was 60th in 27:19 and Dave Waywell finished 1st M70 and 73rd overall in 29:00.
Paul Gregory finished 345th in the Austwick Amble Fell Race near Settle on Monday in the latest round of the Inter Club Fell series, finishing in 1:03:43 for the 8.1 miles and 1179ft ascent in fine and warm conditions . Michael Hall ran the Blackpool Promenade 10-Miler on Saturday finishing the undulating course in 148th place with 1:37:10.
Paul Hetherington ran the Hangman’s Noose 10k from Lancaster Castle on Sunday morning, running 39:28 for 5th place and 2nd M40. Mark Renshall finished 1626th in the Edinburgh Marathon in 3:42:01 having passed through halfway in 1:44:22.
There was a good Wesham turnout at the Bowley Hill Trail Race from Great Harwood on Monday over 5.8 miles and 1000ft of ascent in three climbs with Steven Gore, Simon Denye, Martin Bates, Vicky Gore, James and Maureen Danson, Ryan Azzopardi, Kerry Eccles, Dave Waywell in the next fixture in the club Trail Championships, but the full results are not yet available.
Rob Wallace was the first Wesham runner in this Saturday’s Lytham Hall parkrun on a glorious warm morning through the wooded parkland, completing the 2.5 lap 5km in 21:37 for a senior age graded performance of 59.68%. Dave Marsland visiting from Blackpool recorded 22:21 for an M60 grade of 73.01%. Jason Blagden ran 23:00 for M45 62.10% and Phil Leaver 23:04 for M60 72.04%. Ben Wrigley on pacing duties ran 26:35 (M35 50.22%). James Birchall had 32:23 for 39.89%. Nigel Shepherd ran the Preston parkrun in 21:16 for M60 75.39% while Robert Brown ran 25:40 for M60 62.47%. Stuart Clayton clocked 32:35 with M50 45.27%. Chris Pike was out again in the St Helens run and scored 26:17 for M40 53.14%, his best run since March. Anne Berry was in London and took in the iconic Crystal Palace run, with a time of 28:31 for W55 63.47%. At the Conkers parkrun in North West Leicestershire (Ashby de la Zouch) the travelling Gores were away with David Taylor running the second fastest time of 17:39 for a grade of 73.47% with an out-and-back route on an old railway track and a loop along a canal towpath. Vicky Gore ran 26:36 for W40 58.27% with Steven Gore pacing with a time of 26:37. Jonathan Lawson ran the Burnley run in 22:14 for M50 66.34%, a new personal best on his debut time last year. James Mulvany clocked 18:12 for a new best time at the Fell Foot run in Newby Bridge with an M40 grade of 75.00%. Dave Young ran 25:10 in the Blackpool parkrun in Stanley Park for M70 70.07%, with Andrew Moore clocking 27:20 for M55 65.71% and Martin Bates 28:23 for M60 57.02%.
