Rural paradise in Stannah! Steve Swarbrick ahead of the field in the Fairclough 5

The sun was out for a glorious autumnal morning on Sunday and several Wesham members enjoyed the Fairclough 5-Mile race on a two-lap run around the very quiet country lanes of Stannah at Thornton, finishing in the Wyreside Country Park.

 

Steve Swarbrick took the race apart by 36 seconds winning in a nifty 27:57 also taking 1st M45 category. Garry Barnett finished 12th in 30:26, placing 2nd M50.  Peter Cruse was 2nd M55 in 18th place with 31:43 with Stuart Topping 20th in 32:06 and 2nd M45.  Carmel Sullivan was 5th woman in a good quality field in 34:34 for 2nd W50 and 32nd place overall. Lee Barlow dropped back having taken a bad step and came in 35th in 36:24 guiding in Sean Murray by 4 seconds (36th in 36:28). Martin Bates came in close behind in 38th place with a time of 36:34, 3rd M60. Lee Nickson finished 46th in 38:56; Kerry Eccles was 9th woman and 2nd W55 in 40:29, 51st overall. Alan Taylor was placed 54th with 40:53; Dave Marsland 5th M60 and 58th overall in 41:28; Pauline Eccleston was 15th woman and 3rd W45 in 43:22; Stephen Wilkinson 69th and 2nd M65 in 43:42; Anne Berry 21st woman and 78th in 45:08; Peter Cooke 79th and 4th M55 with 45:17; John Howorth 88th and 4th M65 in 48:08.

 

Steven Gore ran the Petzl Night Runner “Spooky Halloween” at Delaware Forest in Cheshire on Saturday evening and finished 43rd in 50:11 for the 10k treading carefully along the forest trails and the sharp ascent up to Pale Heights. This was the first race in a series and was very popular with 526 finishers.

 

Dave Young ran the Lancaster Castle Jailbreak 10k on Sunday and he finished 68th overall and 2nd M70 in a time of 51:17 for the undulating course.

 

Carl Groome was the first Wesham finisher on Saturday morning at the Lytham Hall parkrun, clocking 20:59 for an M45 age graded performance of 69.18%. Elliot Costello ran 21:30 with Martin Bates M60 70.63% with a time of 22:42. Ryan Azzopardi clocked 23:12 for M35 57.54% with Jonathon Sanderson 23:35 for 54.70%. Gemma Owen recorded W35 61.30% with a time of 24:33; Finlay McCalman M50 55.24% with 27:22; Andrew Moore 28:07 for M55 54.65%; Madeleine Azzopardi 28:41 for W35 52.47%; Martin Taylor 29:07 with M60 65:04%; Sue Rigby 29:20 and W40 53.64%; Debbie Bell 29:41 for W40 53.00%; Diane Blagden 31:14 and W50 54.32%; Julie Rooney 31:15 with W40 49.97%. In the Preston parkrun Steve Myerscough ran 19:22 for M40 72.12%; Graham Vickers 33:01 with M60 48.56%; Lynn Brown 39:20 and W55 46.65%; and Robert Brown 39:22 with M60 40.73%. David Taylor had the days fastest time in 19:51 for 65.32%; Vicky Gore 28:36 for W40 53.79 with Steven Gore in support with 28:37; and Graham Cunliffe M60 47.69 with a time of 33:56. Jenn Thompson ran the Keswick parkrun with her family and she clocked 29:56 for W35 50.78%. In Blackpool Chris Pike ran 26:22 for M40 52.53% and Dave Marsland 30:15 for M60 53.50%.
