Steve Swarbrick in the Mid Lancs Cross Country fords the Lostock In the first Mid Lancs cross country league meeting of the 2017/18 season held at Cuerden Valley Country Park in very warm conditions, fairly boggy underfoot due to recent rain.
In the women’s 6km Jenn Thompson was 72nd in 30:53, 24th W35; Fran Hodskinson 91st in 32:58 21st W45; Diane Blagden 110th with 35:04, 28th W45; and Anne Berry ran very well to place 111th in 35:07, 13th W55. The Wesham women finished 15th W35 and 8th W45 in the teams, 28th overall. Divisional results are to follow. In the Senior Men’s 10km event Steve Swarbrick had an excellent run to place 11th and 1st M40 with a strong run in 38:49. David Taylor was 50th with a great effort to record a time of 43:43. Steve Myerscough was 90th in 46:50, 22nd M40, and John Collier was 5th M60 and 138th in 50:08. Russell Mabbett was 213th in 60:42; Ben Wrigley 220th with 63:21, and Dave Marsland 223rd in 65:57, 17th M60. Overall the Wesham men finished 17th with the M40s 8th and M50s (Collier, Mabbett, Marsland) 11th.
In the Helvellyn Trail 15k on Saturday Kath Hoyer ran the 15k Trail Race and finished 201st in 1:28:41, 8th W50. Jason Blagden finished 7th in the accompanying 15k Challenge event in 1:12:31, 5th M40. He went on to complete the weekend double with the Ullswater Wet Weather 10k Run on Sunday, finishing 25th in 46:18and placing 10th M40.
A large group of Wesham members were in Palma for road running under the Palma Marathon banner. In the 10k Lee Barlow finished 27th and 7th M45 in 38:23, a good run in the warm conditions. Helen Lawrenson was 97th in 43:51, 18th woman and 1st W45 with a great run, with Carmel Sullivan celebrating her birthday with 45:27 with 25th woman, 1st W50 and 133rd place overall. Stephen Browne was 185th in 47:25; Tracey Hulme 41st woman, 2nd W50 and 227th in 48:50; Martin Bates 272nd and 4th M60 in 49:52; Kerry Eccles 93rd woman and 3rd W55 in 53:21, 451st overall; Tanya Barlow 116th woman, 18th W45 and 525th with 54:40; Robert Danson 55:24 for 562nd place; Maureen Danson 253rd woman and 848th in 59:16; Simon Denye 974th in 60:33 running with Louisa (1:00:34); Nigel Shepherd 1058th in 1:13:31; Graham Cunliffe 1868th with 1:13:30. In the Half Marathon Peter Cruse finished 127th in 1:31:32, 3rd M55; Nicola Unsworth 60th woman and 8th W45 in 1:43:33, 466th overall; Sarah Sherratt 167th woman and 29th W45 with 1:54:48, 1047th overall; and Graham Brook 1564th in 2:02:20.
On Sunday Dave Young celebrated his forthcoming 70th birthday in the Manchester Half Marathon based in Trafford; he finished 2538th in 1:53:52, 11th M65; this would have placed him 4th M70. Roger Leadbeater finished 1398th in 1:44:57, 35th M55; and Rob Wallace was 2981st in 1:56:55.Steven Gore ran the Autumn Breaker 10k and finished 106th in 49:58.
Alan Taylor branched out in the Helwith Bridge Duathlon near Settle as he prepares for the Three Peaks Challenge next year cycling between the mountains. With a steep climb straight from the start he finished the first 4 mile run 57th in 33:20, followed by a 23 mile cycle stage of 1:36:15 finishing 60th, and a second 4 mile run bringing him in 63rd in 40:19 with a combined time of 2:49:54. He was 10th M45.
Caz Wadsorth ran 30:10 in the LythaM Hall parkrun on Satruday morning, scoring an age graded performance of W50 56.96%. Martin Taylor ran 30:11 for M60 54.06% with Julie Rooney 30:12 for W40 51.71%. Debbie bell finished 30:34 for W40 51.47%. In the Preston parkrun Robert Danson stepped on the gas for 16:16 and 79.30% with Steve Myerscough warming up for the afternoon’s cross country with 19:21 for M40 72:18. Also heading for the cross country David Taylor ran 19:47 for 65.54% while Carl Groome clocked 19:58 with M45 72.70%. Stuart Topping ran 20:05 for M45 71.12%; Robert Brown 25:13 with M60 63.58%; Elizabeth Johnson 26:05 for W35 58.02%. At the Pheonix run in Runcorn to ride the new Mersey Crossing no doubt Megan Gore ran 35:55 for JW10 47.52% with Steven Gore 35:56. At Harcourt Hill in Oxford James Mulvany had the fastest time with 18:37 for a graded performance of 72.78%. In Blackpool parkrun Jonathan Lawson ran 23:38 for M50 62.41% with Michaela Dempsey scoring 25:31 and W50 66.49%. Chris Pike ran 26:44 for M40 51.81%; Andrew Moore 28:54 for M55 53.17% and Dave Marsland 42:26 for a warm-up with M60 38.13%.
