David Taylor mucks in at last week’s Gin Pit 5 preparing for the cross country

 

It was a busy week for running events with many marathons and half marathons taking place, and there was a thin spread of Wesham members competing in various locations.

 

Simon Eaton ran the ultra distance Lakes in a Day event on Saturday; 50 miles from Caldbeck in the north east through Blencathra and Helvellyn to Cartmel in the south with 4,000m of climb (13,120ft). He finished 105th in 16hr 28min 54sec with an excellent effort in atrocious weather conditions with just a lift to the end as it abated.

 

Jonathan Sanderson ran the Alder Key 10k on Sunday in Croxteth Park in Liverpool and he finished 107th in 49:37 with a 5km split of 24:05.

 

Peter Cruse ran the Redcar Half Marathon finishing 53rd and 2nd M55 in a time of 1:27:03 (1:26:06 chip time). This was a big race of 926 runners.

 

Paul Carter ran the Chester Marathon on Sunday in fine conditions finishing 2333rd in 5:09:40 (chip time 5:07:44 and 2644th). Michael Kearney ran the Metric Marathon (26.2km or 16.3 miles) and he finished 893rd in 3:59:08 (chip time 3:57:54, 903rd). Nicola Unsworth finished 2nd woman and 1st W45 in the West Coast Half Marathon from the Lakeside Café at Fairhaven Lake, 2 laps on a pancake flat course down to the Lytham Windmill and back and she placed 43rd over all in a time of 1:40:22. Finlay McCalman finished 169th in 2:06:42, age category not recorded.

 

David Taylor ran the 2nd fastest time of the day at the Lytham Hall parkrun clocking 18:26 for an age graded performance of 70.16%. Madeleine Azzopardi ran 29:26 for W35 51.13%, and Graham Cunliffe had 31:18 for M60 51.70%. Ella Owen ran a FW10 47.78% with Gemma Owen the same time in support. Debbie bell clocked 57:57 as the tail-end sweep runner. Rob Danson had the 2nd fasted time at the Preston run, easing back into action after his superb 2:28 in the Berlin Marathon, running 17:14 for the 5km here for a modest 74.85%. Steve Myerscough ran 19:32 for M40 71.50% with Stuart Topping 20:14 for M45 70.59%. Robert Brown returned 25:31 for M60 62.83% with Jenn Thompson W35 58.27% with a time of 26:05. Martin Bates ran the Worsley Woods parkrun and he clocked 23:13 for M60 69.06%, his best performance since July.  At the Hillsborough run in Sheffield Lee Barlow ran 20:01 for M45 70.86 with Tanya Barlow 33:44 for W45 47.53%. The Blackpool run fielded the most Wesham members, with Carl Groome scoring 20:05 for M45 72.28%. Nicola Unsworth was 2nd fastest woman in 21:51 for W45 74.14% as she warmed up for the half marathon the next day. Sean Murray ran 22:28 with M35 58.68%; Rob Wallace 24:21 for 52.98%; Dave Marsland 24:26 with M60 66.23%; Dave Young 25:38 for M65 68.01%; Chris Pike 26:25 with M40 52.43%; Anne Flanagan 29:36 for W60 64.64%; Julie Rooney 32:27 for W40 48.13%; Martin Taylor 32:28 for M60 50.26%; Caz Wadsworth 32:31 with W50 52.84%; and Sue Rigby 32:32 with W40 48.36%.
