Helen Lawrenson with a new 5km personal best in Lancaster (this is Preston I know!)
The end of September is traditionally a busy weekend for athletics as the autumn season gets underway before the winter weather sets in and there were Wesham members spread across several events.
James Mulvany finished 2nd in the final Pilling 10k of the year on Saturday morning clocking 36:29 in tandem with brother Richard. Paul Gregory finished 19th in 40:40 and Alan Hudson 31st in 44:19. Roger Leadbeater came in 35th in 45:03 with Tracey Hulme 8th woman in 46:10 for 41st place. Kath Hoyer was 10th woman and 1st W55 in 48:34, 48th overall, with Dave Young 57th and 6th M65 in 50:19. Dave Waywell finished 79th in 57:18 placing 3rd M70 with some strong opposition.
The final Lancaster 5km series saw a handful of Wesham members putting in some good performances. Lee Barlow finished 8th in 17:47, 2nd M45, with Helen Lawrenson 3rd woman in 20:05 for a new personal best time in 24th place. Stuart Topping was one second behind in 20:06 for 25th place. Elliott Costello was 27th with 20:32, a great run, and Jonathan Sanderson was 45th in 24:28. Tanya Barlow was 10th woman in 24:52, 3rd W45.
In the Gin Pit 5 mile trail race near Astley and Tyldesley David Taylor finished 12th in 30:39 for the two-lap figure-of-eight course around the old coal mining fields with Steven Gore 34th with 33:50.
Carl Groome ran 1:35:15 to finish 53rd in the Blenheim Palace Half Marathon on Sunday, organised by the British Heart Foundation. Sue Rigby ran 2:56:01 for 1094th place in the great run in the sun with very picturesque surroundings.
There was a clutch of Wesham runners in the Lytham Hall parkrun, with Nicola Unsworth running the 4th fastest women’s time of the day with 21:41 for a W45 age graded performance of 74.71%. Michaela Dempsey ran 24:51 for W50 68.28% and Debbie Bell W40 53.21% with a good time of 29:34. Graham Cunliffe clocked 32:48 for M60 49.34%. Ellen McKeown ran 42:15 with JW10 41.54% accompanied by John McKeown in the same time. In the Preston run Rob Danson shook his legs back in action after the Berlin Marathon with 17:24 for the 2nd fastest time of the day (74.14%). Steve Myerscough ran 19:31 for M40 71.56%; Robert brown 24:51 with M60 64.52% and Elizabeth Johnson 26:24 with W35 57.32%. Mark Renshall ran the Cross Flatts parkrun in Leeds in 20:26 for M40 68.84% with his second run here and a new personal best. In the Blackpool parkrun which was an event in the club championship David Taylor ran the fastest time of the day with 18:33 (69.72%). Sean Murray ran 22:33 for M35 58.46% with Martin Bates 23:44 for M60 67.56% and Ben Wrigley 24:01 and M35 55.59%. Rob Wallace clocked 24:10 for 53.38% and Dave Marsland 24:27 for M60 66.19%. James Danson ran 26:15 for M50 57.08%; Kerry Eccles 26:41 for W55 66.96%; Peter Cooke 29:08 with M55 54.12%; Andrew Moore 29:43 for M55 51.71%; and Caz Wadsworth 30:07 with W50 57.06%.
