Carl Groome in a world of his own in the Lakeland Trails

Wesham had a good turnout at the Garstang Half Marathon on Sunday over a testing course from Bowgreave up and around Grizedale.

Garry Barnett was the fastest club member finishing 16th and 2nd M50 in 1:27:28 on a wet and windy day. Peter Cruse was 25th and 2nd M55 in 1:29:40 with a good run, and Steven Gore 37th in 1:34:01. Mark Renshall came in 70th in 1:42:18; Nicola Unsworth was 5th woman and 2nd W45 in a time of 1:47:43 in 82nd place overall. Martin Bates was 88th and 4th M60 in 1:51:10; Lee Nixon finished 94th with 1:53:55; Dave Young was 2nd M65 and 99th with 1:55:17. Sharon Cooper came in 116th and 5th W40 in 1:59:28; Finlay McCalman 140th in 2:08:18; John Howorth 144th and 3rd M65 with 2:10:53; and Paul Carter 168th in 2:30:38.

Ugis Datavs completed the Buff Joust 24, a medieval themed 24 hour in Worcestershire taking in part of the Severn Way run over laps of 5 miles, winning the Solo event with 25 laps with a 4-lap advantage. His lap times varied between 45:23 and 1:09:52, reflecting stages where he took a breather and refreshment. He was crowned King Arthur in the theme of the event.

 

Sarah Sherratt ran the Ben Nevis race with 8.7 miles and 4419ft of climb. She finished 413th in a time of 2:57:34 but not satisfied with her performance. She was 56th woman and 4th first timer W45. She finished 19th W45 overall.

 

The Grand Tour of Skiddaw was staged on Saturday at 8am, 44 miles and 7136ft of climb, a round starting and finishing in Dalston in the Northern Lakes. Simon Eaton finished 30th in 10:53:06; Russell Mabbett was 69th in 12:41:28, great efforts from both of them.

 

Rob Danson took things easy in the Golden Ball 20 on Sunday as he makes his final preparations for the Berlin Marathon. He finished 4th with a moderate 2:01:05, five and a half minutes behind the race winner.

 

Paul Gregory and Carl Groome ran in the Lakeland Trails Derwentwater Challenge 15km centred on Fitz Park in Keswick on Saturday and running onto the hills at Lonsdale Fell, coming back down Lattrigg. The Challenge is an easier option than the main trail race which contains the faster runners and Paul finished 8th in 1:19:00 with Carl just behind in 9th place in 1:19:09.

 

In the Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning David Taylor ran 18:43 for an age graded performance of 60.10%. Jonathan Lawson clocked 21:45 for M45 67.28%; Ryan Azzopardi ran 22:48 for an M35 grade of 58.55%. Phil Leaver recorded 23:11 for M60 71.68%; Ben Wrigley had an M35 grade of 54.53% with 24:29; Finlay McCalman ran 26:38 for M50 56.76%; Graham Cunliffe a time of 28:08 for M60 57.52%; and Madeleine Azzopardi 28:52 for W35 52.14%. In the Preston parkrun Steve Myerscough ran 19:11 for an M40 grade 72.81%; John Bertenshaw clocked 20:14 his second fastest time for M60 79.98%; and Robert Brown had 25:05 for M60 63.92%. In the Millom run north of Barrow in Cumbria the Gore family completed their tour of all North West parkruns; Steven Gore ran 21:05 for M35 62.92%; Megan Gore 40:37 for JW10 42.02%, with Vicky Gore also running 40:37. In the Blackpool run Lee Barlow was the 2nd fastest of the day with 18:22 for an M45 performance of 77.22%; Rob Wallace ran 24:12 for 53.31%; Martin Bates clocked 24:35 for an M60 grade of 65.22%; and Tanya Barlow ran 26:01 for W45 61.63%.
