Rob Danson streets ahead with no-one going to catch him
The Great Eccleston Fast Four on Sunday morning was the latest race in the Wesham club championship and it brought out a good number of club members to race. On form Garry Barnett was the first finisher for the club in 5th place with 23:53 for the 4-mile single loop around the village and out via Elswick, all in aid of the Scouts Club. Peter Cruse was next across the line in 6th place with 24:31 to win the M55 category. Steven Gore made a hat-trick in 8th place with 25:19 and the trio won the men’s team. Helen Lawrenson was 3rd woman and 1st W45 in 26:12 finishing 12th. Kath Hoyer was the leading W55 and 5th woman in 30:24, 24th overall. Sharon Cooper was 6th woman and 1st W40 in 30:47 for 26th place. The Wesham women were beaten by 1 point by the Blackpool team. Jason Blagden finished 9th in 25:39 with a good run; Alan Hudson won the M65 category in 27:51 in 14th place; Ryan Azzopardi was 20th in 29:23; Peter Rooney 25th with 30:30; Dave Young was 2nd M65 and 30th in 31:35; Vicky Gore took 8th woman and 2nd W40 in 32:21, 33rd overall; Kerry Eccles was 2nd W55 and 9th woman in 32:29 (34th) with Pauline Eccleston 3rd W45 and 10th with 32:40 (36th). Robert Danson was 37th in 32:53 (3rd M50), with Tanya Barlow 11th and 38th in 32:59, 4th W45. Jonathan Sanderson came in 39th with 33:39; Dave Waywell was 2nd M70 and 42nd in 34:20. Maureen Danson finished 15th and 46th in 35:03; Paul carter was 48th with 35:31; Julie Rooney was 19th and 53rd in 36:45.
In the fourth race of the Lancaster Summer 5km Series on Saturday, Steve Myerscough was 13th in a time of 18:03. Helen Lawrenson was 2nd woman and 1st W45 in 20:06, a new personal best performance for her in 20th place overall and just 15 seconds behind the wining woman. Dave Young ran the Pilling 10k on Saturday morning in 50:40, winning the M65 category in 33rd place overall. Steve Myerscough finished 11th in the Harrock Hill race series, completing the fourth race on Wednesday in 30th place with 40:39 for the 6 miles and 900ft of climb. Sarah Sherratt ran Pendleton Fell Race, winning the W40 category and 7th woman in 55:24 for 5 miles and 1500ft of ascent, finishing 73rd overall.
John Bertenshaw ran in the Mid-Cheshire Summer 5k on Thursday evening and he ran a swift 19:48 (19:43 chip time) to show he is in good form again. The full results are not yet available.
There were four Wesham members in the Illuminations 10k on Saturday evening as the lights were switched on for a trial. Robert Brown was 6th M60 in 171st place in 50:23 with Rob Wallace 212th in 52:01. Graham Brook was 20th M50 and 250th overall with 53:12. Lynn Brown was 353rd woman and 693rd overall in 1:07:37, 11th W55.
Six Wesham members tried out the new 2-lap course at the Lytham Hall parkrun on its first running on Saturday morning, with Ryan Azzopardi running 22:04 for an M35 age graded performance of 60.50%. Jonathan Lawson clocked 22:22 for M45 65.42%, and David Taylor took an easy pace with a troublesome calf strain to come in with 22:38. Phil Leaver finished with 23:18 for M60 71.32% with Ben Wrigley on 24:37 for M35 54.23%. Clive Berry ran 31:02 for M50 47.91%. In the Preston parkrun Rob Danson ran a new event personal best of 15:31 for 83.14% with Robert Brown running 25:47 for M60 62.18% and volunteering as well. In the Bolton run in Leverhulme Park John Bertenshaw recorded 21:45 for M60 74.41%. Megan Gore ran 36:08 for JW10 47.23% in the Rother Valley parkrun in Sheffield with parents Steven and Vicky Gore on the same time. Jenn Thompson was in Shrewsbury and ran the parkrun there in 28:26 for W35 53.46%. In Conwy Graham Cunliffe clocked 30:01 for M60 53.91%. In Blackpool Nicola Unsworth ran 22:32 for W45 71.89%; Chris Pike 25:15 for M40 54.85%; Bernadette Dickinson 25:24 for W55 70.34%; and Jonathan Sanderson 25:44.
