Rob Danson revelled in the sixth race in the Inter Club Grand Prix series in Chorley’s Astley Park, recognised as the toughest course in the series with a small loop on multi-terrain through the trees with two large laps with an out-of-the-park challenge up the hill of Southport Road. He stormed away from the start and had a big lead into the second mile of the 4.7 mile distance, lapping half of the field as he strode to the finish 85 seconds clear to clock 25:03 for the win. Wesham were light on their top men, and Ugis Datavs was the next finisher in 21st place with 30:07. Steve Myerscough ran well to come in 26th in 30:34 with Paul Gregory 30th and Lee Barlow 31st in 30:54 and 30:55 respectively. Garry Barnett was 34th in 31:05 and Les Cornwall 39th with 31:19. Mark Belfield was 41st in 31:37; Jason Barlow 43rd with 31:39 and Paul Hetherington 52nd in 32:10. Steven Gore closed the team in 3rd place with 32:27 for 54th place. Helen Lawrenson was 5th woman (71st overall) in 33:16, 2nd Ladies Veteran with Carmel Sullivan 6th and 3rd (74th overall) in 33:36. Sarah Sherratt was 12th (5th veteran and 97th overall) in 35:29; Sue Coulthurst 14th and 7th (107th) in 35:45. Nicola Unsworth was 15th (8th and 115th) with 36:49. The team were 2nd women’s team and won the Women’s W40 team category with a great performance. The Wesham Men M40 were 2nd team with Myerscough 10th, L Barlow 12th, Barnett 14th, J Barlow 18th, Hetherington 21st and Peter Cruse (24th in 32:37; 58th overall). The Men M50 were 2nd with Barnett 4th, Cruse 7th; John Bertenshaw 10th in 33:14 and Carmel Sullivan 13th while the Wesham M60s were 2nd with Bertenshaw 3rd, Alan Glasgow 6th (35:40; 105th) and Alan Hudson 7th (35:43; 106th).  Carl Groome was 66th in 33:08; Jason Blagden 76th in 33:50 with Stuart Topping 77th (33:52); Mark Renshall was 79th in 34:05 and Luke Robinson 101st in 35:38. Jenn Thompson was 42nd woman (196th) in 42:25; Maureen Danson 52nd (211th) with 43:21 and Kerry Eccles 53rd (213th) in 43:27.


The Air Show 10k in Bispham continued its annual popularity with 250 runners and again hosted the Northern Masters 10k Championships in a single up-and-down loop along the cliff top towards Anchorsholme and the Lower Walk to North Shore. Garry Barnett was the first Wesham finisher in 17th place (2nd M50) with a time of 38:34 in perfect running conditions. Peter Cruse was 26th and 5th M55 in 40:08 with Lee Barlow 31st and 5th M45 in 40:36. Carl Groome was 36th in 41:10 and The men’s team were 2nd behind Preston.  Helen Lawrenson was 10th woman and 3rd W45 in 44:04, 63rd overall, with Nicola Unsworth 14th and 4th W45 in 45:55 (82nd overall). Pauline Eccleston was 39th with 55:05 and the team were 2nd behind Blackburn Harriers; Tanya Barlow 40th in 55:09; Anne Berry 46th in 56:49 (5th W55); Sue Rigby 67th with 63:29; Victoria Birkett 69th in 65:07; Caz Wadsworth 70th in 65:11 and Debbie Bell 72nd with 65:54. Elliot Costello was 74th in 45:00; Phil Leaver 113th and 9th M60 in 49:15; Peter Rooney 130th in 51:18; Rob Wallace 131st with 51:21; Dave Young 4th M65 and 140th in 51:14 and Robert Danson 154th in 53:51. Paul Carter finished 220th with 65:05.


It was a busy week for the Inter Club with the fourth and final race in the fell series on Sunday at Boulsworth from the Trawden Country Fair. Over 6.2 miles and 1000ft climb John Collier finished 2nd M60 and 79th overall in 57:47 with Nigel Shepherd close behind in 83rd (4th M55) with 57:59. Jen Salt was 22nd woman and 156th (5th W40) in 1:10:12; Graham Vickers 197th in 1:25:57 and Debbie Myerscough 50th (200th overall) with 1:28:45.


Paul Gregory was the first Wesham finisher in the third and final Catforth 5k in this year’s series. He finished 12th in a time of 18:12 holding off Steve Myerscough by 4 seconds who came in 13th in 18:16. Mark Belfield was 16th in 18:40 with Jason Blagden 19th in 19:35 and Stuart Topping 20th with 19:42. Nicola Unsworth was 3rd woman and 1st W45 in 21:35; Kay Twist was 9th woman and 2nd W45 in 25:51. Maureen Danson was 10th woman and 2nd W50 in 25:53. Roger Leadbeater finished 34th in 22:33 3rd M55, and Elliott Costello was 42nd in 25:25. Emma Davies was 63rd in 29:4123rd woman.


Vicky Gore ran the Dublin Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon on Sunday, running 2:10:24 having taken over 15 minutes to cross the start line and no chip time given.  She finished 3732nd and 1289th woman, also 296th W40.


Phil Leaver and Debbie Bell took on the role of tail runners in last week’s Lytham Hall parkrun as Wesham helped out with the official roles. They brought round the last runner in 49:05. Chris Pike was in St Helens for the run in Victoria Park and he ran 24:31 for an M40 age graded performance of 56.49%. The Gores were in Dublin for the weekend and in the Malahide parkrun on Saturday morning Megan Gore ran 35:30 for JW10 48.08% with Steven and Vicky Gore in support with the same times. Ben Wrigley was in Witton Park in Blackburn and he clocked 25:51 with his son Eric for M35 51.32%. In Blackpool in Stanley Park Stephen Browne ran 23:13 for M50 64.03% with Rob Wallace clocking 24:26 with 52.80%. Robert Brown scored an M60 64.56% with Lynn Brown 33:06 for W55 54.68%.
