The Team at Ryelands Park in Lancaster ready for action

It was the final date of the Mid Lancs Cross Country at Ryelands Park in Lancaster and Wesham had a good turnout from the women but a smaller men’s team than might have been hoped for. Helen Lawrenson finished 33rd in the Senior Women’s 8km in 28:48 for 6th W45. Kath Hoyer was 6th W55 and 61st in 31:26, with Kay Twist pushing her all the way with 31:37 in 63rd for 15th W45. Anne Mayers-Smith was 22nd W35 and 82nd in 33:00, and Lucy Neighbour 28th W35 and 105th with 35:16. Loiusa Denye finished 30th W35 and 112th in 36:23 with Claire Belfield 31st W35 and 114th in 36:56. Sally Deacon was 37th W45 and 130th in 40:31 and Tanya Barlow 39th W45 and 132nd in 40:41. The women had a Senior ‘A’ team in 15th place and a ‘B’ team 29th. The W35 team was 8th and W45 team 2nd, a great result.

In the accompanying M70 race Dave Young finished 3rd in 35:18 and Peter Bartlett 8th in 37:36 to finish 2nd team behind Clayton but ahead of arch-rivals Kendal to secure the team overall win for the season. In the Men’s 10k race David Taylor finished 26th in 37:29 with Chris Hastwell 43rd in 38:42. Lee Barlow held off Alek Walker and Andrew Harling as the trio finished one second apart each with 40:03, 40:04 and 40:05 for 63rd (15th M40), 64th and 65th places. Simon Denye was 80th (20th M40) in 41:09; Mark Belfield 85th in 41:20; Nigel Shepherd 167th and 7th M60 in 46:02 just edging out John Collier as 8th M60 and 170th in 46:58. Martin Bates was 12th M60 and 180th in 48:27. The Men’s ‘A’ team were 8th with an incomplete ‘B’ team, with the M40s 11th, M50s 9th and the M60 team 2nd, with enough done to win the category again this season.

There was a great quality at this month’s Power of 5k at Salt Ayre in Lancaster over the cycle circuit with winner Jorge Thomas clocking 14:59. David Taylor ran excellently for 9th place with 16:44. Steve Abbott kicked off his weekend with 17:35 for 17th position, and Neil Gregson was 28th with 19:00.

Steve Abbott ran the Accrington 10k on Sunday and finished 8th on the hilly course in 37:48. This was a popular race with 391 finishers. Paul Lancashire ran the Trafford 10k, one of the North West’s best road races, and he completed the course in 267th in a time of 41:34. Lucy Neighbour completed the Trotters Five race in Bolton in 46:18 for 134th place on a 2-lap course on woodland trails at Smithills Country Park.

There was a Grand Prix of Running in Oulton Park in Cheshire, and Tanya Shaw ran the 20 miles in her marathon preparation finishing 10th woman and 2nd W40 in 3:03:47, placing 72nd overall. Elliot Costello was 18th in the 10k in 45:37, with Stuart Topping 28th with 47:02. Kerry Eccles finished 40th woman and 3rd W55 in 57:30, 137th overall.

Ian Nichols Hogg was Wesham’s fastest member at last week’s Lytham Hall Parkrun at 9am on Saturday morning, recording 21:35 for an age graded performance of 59.77%. Sharon Cooper ran 24:01 for W45 66.76% with Phil Leaver clocking 27:51 with an M65 60.80%. Julie Rooney returned 35:20 for W45 44.95% and Sue Rigby 35:50 with W45 44.74%. Tracey Hulme ran 24:17 for W55 75.57% at the South Manchester run in Platts Field. In Preston in the drained Avenham Park Robert Brown ran 26:45 with an M60 grade 61.00%; Michelle Tickle clocked 27:03 for W45 59.27% and Lynn Brown finished in 33:08 with W55 56.94%. Louise Lord was in Essex and ran the Colchester Castle run in 29:04 with W45 55.16%. The Gores were in Southport for the Hesketh Park run, both clocking 25:48 with Vicky returning a W40 60.98% and Steven M35 52.13%. Emma Brook was back at the Riverside run in Chester-le-Street with 30:13 for W35 49.81%. Mark Renshall was in Heslington in the York Sport Village for their parkrun where he ran 23:41 for an M45 60.31%. There were 5 Wesham members in Stanley Park for the Blackpool run with Stephen Brown running 24:01 with an M50 grade of 63.43%; James Mulvany 24:16 with M40 57.07%; Dave Marsland 25:47 for an M60 64.45%; Andrew Moore 26:02 and M55 60.56%; and Finlay McCalman 29:13 with M55 52.60%. In the Poolbeg run in Sean Moore Park in Sandymount Dublin Antionette Holton ran 26:18 for a W35 grade 56.84%. There were 5 Wesham runners in the Fleetwood Promenade run with Peter Cruse clocking 24:10 for M55 64.69%. Suzanne Leonard ran 24:57 for W45 66.40% with George Kennedy 24:58 and M60 65.35%. Paul Eccles clocked 28:33 in his first run here for M35 47.46% and Kim McGuire returned 32:38 with W60 59.45%.
