There were several events to run off the Christmas festivities, and Wesham members saw out the year in various events with the Boxing Day 10k in Leyland being the most popular locally. With many Santas and elves still prevalent David Taylor finished 9th in 36:48. Steve Abbott was 15th in 38:06 running in bib number 1 and placing 4th M40. Chris Hastwell was 18th in 38:45 and 4th M35. Neil Harrison placed 20th with 39:07; and Alek Walker 27th 40:01 with Lee Nixon 28th in 40:16. Stuart Clayton was 59th and 5th M50 in 44:36. Helen Lawrenson finished 9th woman and 1st W50 in 44:59, 65th overall and Michelle Tickle was 12th woman, 4th W45 in 46:20, 81st overall. Sharon Cooper placed 188th with 53:17; Ben Wrigley was 269th in 57:36; and Claire Axcell 326th in 61:10.
In the Lancaster Festive 4km on Friday morning, Michelle Tickle finished 11th woman and 1st W45 in 17:31, 49th overall. Kim Mcguire was 244th in 25:20.
The big event of the period was the Ribble Valley 10k incorporating the Northern Athletics Championships, a quality fast race on a single loop course along fully closed country roads on Sunday morning. With perfect running conditions the first three men broke the course record and the first 12 runners were inside 30 minutes. Of the 4 Wesham members entered only Steve Abbott ran and he clocked 37:31 for 203rd place, 19th M40 and 109th in the Northern Championships.
There was much parkrunning on offer last week with additional runs on Christmas Day morning. There was a big turnout at the Preston run, with David Taylor placing the 9th fastest time of the day with 18:47 for an M30 age graded performance of 69.48%. Carl Groome recorded 20:48 for an M50 graded of 71.74%. Nigel Shepherd ran 21:10 for M60 76.46% and Elliot Costello 22:30 for M25 57.33%. Dave Marsland clocked 24:04 for a new personal best on this course with M60 69.04% and Stuart Clayton returned 25:16 for M50 58.84%. Suzanne Leonard ran 25:54 for her first run here with W45 63.96% with George Kennedy 25:55 for M60 62.96%. Robert Brown had 26:17 with M60 62.08% and Michelle Tickle ran 27:57 for W45 56.83%. Vicky and Steven Gore ran 29:23 and 29:24 for W40 53.15% and M35 45.75%. Lynn Brown clocked 33:28 for W55 56.37%.
It was a favourable morning for parkrunning last Saturday, and Wesham runners took in the opportunity. At Lytham Hall Chris Hastwell was the fastest Wesham member in 18:47 for an M35 age graded percentage of 70.63%. International IronMan triathlete Ian Garrod is on fine form again and he ran 20:45 to see out the year with an M55 graded 75.34%. Michelle Tickle clocked 23:02 for W45 68.96% with Jonathan Lawson running 23:13 for M50 64.54%. Sharon Cooper recorded 23:58 with W45 66.90% and Kay Twist 24:40 for W50 67.97%. Andrew Moore ran 61.11% for an M55. Paul Eccles returned 25:51 with M35 52.42% and Stephen Twist M50 56.37% with his time 26:49. Phil Leaver ran 26:50 for M65 63.11%. Peter Bartlett clocked 28:19 for M70 63.04%. Tracey Hulme was out at the South Manchester run after a layoff and she ran a creditable 24:55 for W55 73.65%. In Preston’s Avenham Park Nigel Shepherd completed the three laps in 21:10 for M60 76.46%. Ian Nicholls Hogg ran 25:59 for M25 49.65%. Robert Brown clocked 26:33 for M60 61.46% and Lynn Brown 34:37 with W55 54.50%. In Southport Stuart Clayton returned a personal best with 20:54 and an M50 grade of 71.13%. Nearby in Kew Woods Carl Groome recorded 20:47 as a First Timer for an M50 grade 71.53% and Sue Rigby ran 37:06 for W45 43.22%. Martin Bates ran Worsley Woods in Manchester in 23:03 for M60 71.44%. There were 9 Wesham members in the Blackpool Stanley Park run with John Burns on form with 23:04 for M60 72.04%. Dave Marsland ran 23:14 for M60 71.52% and Stephen Browne 23:56 for M50 63.65%. Rob Wallace had 24:34 for M25 52.51% and Emma Wright ran 28:36 for W40 54.20%. Emma Brook clocked 28:37 for a new personal best and W45 graded 52.59%. Sharlan Butcher ran 29:30 with W45 58.05% and Dawn Biggs returned 29:36 for W50 58.05%. Dave Young ran 29:46 for M70 60.75%. On Fleetwood Promenade Suzanne Leonard ran 24:59 with a W45 grade of 66.31% with George Kennedy 1 second adrift with M60 65.27%. Brian Jones ran 30:18 for M55 52.04%. At Morecambe Promenade James Mulvany ran the 3rd fastest time of the day with a swift 17:46 for M40 77.39% and Emma Lund 3rd fastest female with 21:20 with a W35 70.31%. In the Alexandra parkrun in Moss Side in Trafford David Taylor finished 4th fastest runner of the morning with 17:27 for M30 74.79% with Steven Gore clocking 21:26 for M35 62.75%. Vicky Gore ran 27:15 and a W40 age grade of 57.31%.
