Nigel Shepherd in the Stoop

The festive period reduced athletic activity over the past week with few events taking place and members occupied elsewhere with preparations for Christmas and with social and celebratory events taking place.

Nigel Shepherd ran the Stoop Fell Race from Penistone Country Park near Howarth in Yorkshire on Sunday over 4.9 miles and 700ft of ascent over snowy moors. He finished 6th M60 and 112th in 53:55. The first two M60 runners finished within 6 seconds of each other. Kath Hoyer ran the traditionally wet Hurst Green Turkey Trot over 5 miles of trails and opted for an easy run with friends to finish 142nd woman and 9th W55 in a popular run in 1:24:32, 277th overall.

Paul Lancashire ran the Christmas Cracker 10k in Lancaster from the George and Dragon in the streets near the Castle and down along the riverfront finishing 15th in 43:51.

In the Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde AC Predictor race on Sunday in Stanley Park Dave Waywell was 8 seconds out with his predicted finish time of 38:50 to place 2nd with Howard Henshaw behind Chris Wylie who was 4 seconds close to his forecast. Kath Hoyer was 19 seconds out with her time of 20:43. 35 runners took part in this seasonal special event.

Despite the wind and rain on Saturday morning there were still numbers of Wesham runners out in various parkruns. At Lytham Hall in the relative shade of the woodlands Antionette Holton was the first Wesham members finishing, with a time of 25:28 for a new personal best time and a W35 age graded percentage of 58.70%. Martin Allison clocked 26:39 for an M35 grade of 49.78% and triathlete Lisa Minns had 26:47 for W55 66.71%. Phil Leaver put in a sprightly 27:37 for M65 63.32% and Peter Bartlett ran 28:12 for M70 63.30%. Mark Holton was pace-making at 35:44 and Linda Williamson recorded 37:02 with a W45 grade of 43.74%. In the Preston run Steve Myerscough clocked 20:46 for an M45 age grade of 68.78% with Stuart Clayton running 22:28 with M50 66.17%. Robert Brown ran 27:30 for M60 59.33%; Paul Carter recorded 30:12 with M50 48.84%; and Lynn Brown made 34:58 with W55 53.96%. In the Riverside run in Chester-Le-Street Emma Brook clocked 27:54 for W35 53.94% and in the popular Portobello run in Edinburgh Carl Groome ran 21:52 for M50 67.99% with Sue Rigby recording 36:24 for W45 44.05%. In the Blackpool parkrun Stephen Browne was the fastest Wesham member this week with 23:26 for M50 65.01%; Dave Marsland ran 23:46 with M60 69.92%; Sharon Cooper clocked 24:29 with a W45 grade of 65.49%; Emma Wright made 26:58 a new personal best performance with a W40 grade 57.48%; and Finlay McCalman recorded 28:06 with M55 54.69%. In a very low turnout along Fleetwood Promenade Peter Cruse ran the 3rd fastest time of the day in a stiff wind with 23:21 for M55 66.95%. Martin Bates recorded 25:35 for M60 64.36%, and Graham Cunliffe ran 36:51 for M60 44.69%.  This week the Wesham parkrun tourists were at the new Sutton Manor run near St Helens for its second event where David Taylor clocked the 2nd fastest time of the day with 18:31 for an age graded 70.48% and Steven Gore ran 20:33 for M35 65.45%. Vicky Gore recorded 28:57 for a W40 grade of 53.94%.
