Wesham Avengers tackle the Preston 10

The Preston 10 on Sunday saw the Lancashire and Northern Athletics championships draw a top-quality field and Wesham had a good number of members in attendance. Rob Danson was the first finisher from the club placing 7th in a time of 51:56. Ultra runner Ugis Datavs finished 26th in 56:50 and 5th M40. Tom Crabtree was 48th in 60:15 with Stuart Clayton 155th in 1:13:01 being 10th M50. Alan Hudson was 5th M70 and 211th overall in 1:18:08. Martin Allison finished 227th in 1:19:35 and James Danson was 243rd in 1:21:36. Kay Twist was Wesham’s first lady and 51st woman overall and 4th W50 with 1:21:56, 246th overall. Sharon Cooper was 68th woman and 10th W45 277th overall in 1:26:00. Antoinette Holton finished 78th woman, 12th W35 and 293rd in 1:27:05. Dave Young was 7th M70 and 306th overall in 1:29:01 and Elizabeth Johnson was 88th woman and 19th W40 307th overall in 1:29:19. There are no Lancashire results published as yet.

There was a Wesham squad in the Conwy Half marathon which takes in Llandudno and the Great Orme Head with a quality field with the winning time 1:08:24. Wesham’s David Taylor finished 25th just ahead of the leading woman in 1:21:01 reflecting the hilly nature of the course. Paul Hetherington finished 83rd in 1:27:59 and 8th M45. Carl Groome was 365th in 1:41:29, 26th M50 and Eliot Costello finished 387th in 1:42:25. Joy Hetherington was 881st woman and 2379th overall in 2:32:45. There were 2771 finishers in total.

Paul Lancashire ran the 13 Arches Half Marathon in 1:40:40 to finish 84th and 19th M35 through the Whitefield and Radcliffe area of Northern Manchester in the third running of a very popular event. It manages to find a very countrified route in a heavily urbanised area.

Steve Swarbrick finished 3rd in the Arnside Knott Race in a time of 39:52, coming in first M40 and first masters runner overall. James Mulvany ran the Kendal Mountain Festival 10k finishing 25th in 44:36, no age category results available. There was no Lytham Hall parkrun this week but Wesham members found plenty of other venues to take part in. in the Preston run in Avenham Park Steve Abbott clocked the 3rd fastest time of the day with 18:53 to score an age graded performance of 73.35%. Nigel Shepherd ran 21:37 for an M60 age grade of 74.87%. Stuart Clayton recorded 21:43 for a new personal best time and an M50 age grade of 68.46%. Emma Lund travelled down from Lancaster for 25:03 and a W35 59.88%. Robert Brown clocked 27:29 with M60 59.37% and Lynn Brown 34:13 with W55 55.14%. Dawn Biggs ran the Oldham parkrun in 27:58 for a First Timer clocking and a W50 61.44% age grade. Martin Bates took in the Worsley Woods run while in Manchester running 23:12 and an M60 age grade 70.98%. Emma Brook clocked the Riverside run in Chester-le-Street at 28:40 for a W40 52.33% grade.  There was a good Wesham turnout at the Blackpool run in Stanley Park and Lee Barlow was to the fore with the 4th fastest time of the day in a great 19:41 and an M45 grade of 72.73%. Jonathan Lawson orphaned from the Lytham Hall run clocked 22:34 for M50 66.40% with John Burns getting back in shape running 22:54 for M60 72.56%. Darragh Twist made a debut with a great 22:55 and a SM20 grade of 56.87%. Stephen Browne ran 23:10 for M50 66.25% and Dave Marsland M60 70.71% with a time of 23;30. Paul Boustead clocked 23:59 as a First Timer and an M35 grade of 56.50%. Stephen Twist ran 25:44 for M50 58.74% and Andrew Moore recorded 26:12 with M55 59.67%.  Ben Wrigley scored 26:45 and M35 50.65% with Emma Wright running 28:11 for a W40 55.00%. Mark Renshall ran well along the Fleetwood Promenade finishing with 21:32 and an M45 grade of 66.33% with Peter Cruse running 22:31 for M55 69.43%. Dave Young returned 26:58 for an M70 grade 67.06% with Graham Cunliffe stopping the clock at 27:19 with an M60 60.28%. Brian Jones ran 30:15 for M55 52.12%. the Parkrun Tourists were at the Hafan Pwllheli parkrun along the beach preparing for the Conwy Half Marathon and Wesham members took the 3 fastest times of the day with David Taylor clocking 18:29 for an age grade of 70.60%; Steven Gore a great 19:28 for M35 69.09% and Eliot Costello a tremendous run 21:38 for an age grade of 59.63%. Carl Groome ran 23:00 for M50 64.13%, while Vicky Gore clocked 29:46 for W40 52.46%; Sue Rigby ran 44:35 and a W45 age grade 35.96% and Joy Hetherington 44:37 for W40 34.29%. This was a family affair with Farrell Hetherington taking 44:33 for JM10 35.43% and Michelle Rigby 45:11 for W45 35.49%.
