Wesham trail running troupe in the sun on Sunday at Northwich
The week kicked off with the 20 Barriers Race in Carnforth, the latest round in Wesham’s new trail championship. Garry Barnett was the first Wesham finisher in 10th place with 37:52 for the 5 miles of canal bank and field paths, placing 1st M50. Paul Gregory was 16th in 38:55 just holding of Steve Myersough who was 17th in 39:00. Peter Cruse was 35th in 40:58, 5th M50. Carmel Sullivan was 2nd woman and 1st W50 in 41:46 with Kath Hoyer 9th woman and 2nd W55 in 48:27. Jen Salt was 15th woman in 50:25 and 3rd W40. Mark Dobson finished 101st in 51:28; Dave Young was 103rd with 51:55 and 2nd M65; Vicky Gore 22nd woman in 52:28; Kerry Eccles was 30th woman in 57:11 and 7th W55. Dave Waywell was 135th and 4th M70 in 59:50.
There was a good number in the Astley Park Trail series on Wednesday evening over 7.4km. Helen Lawrenson won the women’s race in 30:52 and 28th place overall. Sarah Sherratt was 5th woman and 4th W40 in 33:19, 4th W40 and 47th overall. Victoria Birkett was 27th in 44:40 with Carole Birkett 28th in 44:26. Jason Blagden was 23rd in 30:29, 8th M45, with Stuart Topping 38th in 31:26, Mark Renshall 42nd in 31:56 and Stephen Browne 59th in 35:26.
In the 4th race in the Kendal 10k series at Endmoor on Wednesday Martin Bates was 36th and 5th M60 for the hilly course in 49:07. Russell Mabbett was 51st in 55:11 with Peter Bartlett 52nd in 55:16. Chris Moss was 54th in 56:03 with Jenny Salt 12th woman and 58th overall with 57:18.
David Taylor was the first Wesham finisher in Thursday’s Cuerden Valley Badger 10k, coming in 5th in 39:06. Paul Gregory was 7th in 41:27, with Helen Lawrenson 4th woman and 3rd W45 in 46:39. Phil Leaver finished 1st M60 and 52nd in 53:20, with Dave Young 3rd M65 and 68th in 56:06. Graham Vickers was 89th in 62:15.
The Bull Hill Fell Race at Hawkshaw hosted the 2nd Inter Club Fell Series. Steve Myerscough was 60th with 46:34, with Nigel Shepherd 108th in 50:54 with a bit of ground on John Collier, 112th in 51:04. Debbie Myerscough was 51st woman and 221st in 1:21:04.
Simon Eaton and Russell Mabbett both ran the Saint Cuthbert’s Way 45-mile ultra event on Saturday from Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Simon Eaton broke away over the final miles to finish 10th in 12:40:59 with Russell Mabbett 12th in 12:56:49, placing 1st M50.
Nicola Unsworth finished 2nd woman in the Blackpool Summer 10k along the promenade in a time of 45:57. She was 24th overall and 1st W45. Elizabeth Johnson was 18th woman and 89th overall in 53:16.
Peter Cruse was 24th and 2nd M50 in the St Anne’s Carnival 5k on Sunday, running 19:30. Jason Blagden finished 31st in 20:18 and Stuart Topping was 35th with 20:30. Dave Young was 4th M65 and 85th in 25:35.
Garry Barnett finished 12th in the Bentham Beagles 10k on Sunday in 39:01, 1st M50. Lee Nixon was 61st in 51:10 with Alan Taylor 63rd with 51:54. Lee Barlow ran 5:08 for the 3rd Midsummer Mile at the UCLAN track in Preston, ranking 6th in the evening’s results. Steve Myerscough clocked 5:20 for 12th fastest, and Simon Denye 5:49 for 21st, pacing his son George. Debbie Myerscough ran 8:12 placing 38th.
Steve Myerscough was running again on Sunday in the Northwich Festival of Running 10k in Cheshire, finishing 8th and 1st M40 in 41:35 for an undulating course into Masbury Park. Steven Gore was 16th in 44:35 and Debbie Myersough was 102nd in 63:23.
Ben Wrigley ran 23:44 at this week’s Lytham Hall parkrun on Saturday morning, scoring an M35 age-graded performance of 55.90%. Michaela Dempsey clocked 24:31 for W50 69.20% with Dave Young 25:22 for M65 68.73%. Finlay McCalman ran 27:28 for M50 55.04% and Debbie Bell 30:02 and W40 52.39%. Steve Myerscough recorded 19:27 at the Preston parkrun for M40 71.81% with Robert Brown M60 62.59% with a time of 25:27. Lynn Brown ran 35:23 for W55 51.15%. John Bertenshaw ran his first Hyde parkrun in Tameside with 21:20 for M60 75.86 just missing setting a new M60 record there by 1 second. At the Brighouse run Steven Gore recorded 19:52 for M35 66.78%, with Megan Gore JW10 48:21% with 35:24 and Vicky Gore also running 25:24. At Burnley Graham Cunliffe ran 30:03 for M60 53.85%; Graham Vickers ran Cuerden Valley in 32:02 with M55 49.64%; George Kennedy was in Tring running 25:08 for M55 63.26%. Carl Groome ran the Blackpool run in 20:54 for M45 69.46%, with Nicola Unsworth 21:31 for the second fastest woman of the morning and W45 74.52%. Chris Pike ran 25:13 for M40 54.02%; Kay Twist 26:49 for W45 60.41%; Stephen Twist 28:40 and M50 51.45%, and Sue Rigby 34:13 with W40 45.64%.
