Runners in the Ice Cream 10k in Garstang on Sunday were awarded with just that; an ice cream at the finish on a warm day.  Steve Abbott knew what he went there for and he was rewarded with a straight win, crossing the line in pole position with a time of 38:36 with a 9-second advantage over 2nd place. He was also first M40.

Paul Gregory finished off the Kendal 10k Series at Endmoor on Wednesday evening, the traditional tough finish to the 4-race programme. Paul finished 14th in 41:40 for the tough hilly circuit, 4th M40. Peter Bartlett placed 78th in 60:08 and was 3rd M70 with the age group winner clocking 48:00 with an incredible run.

Paul Lancashire finished 130th in the City of Manchester 10k last week in 42:43 with a good run. Paul Carter ran the Holme Howler obstacle race near Carnforth in Cumbria on Saturday and was the only Wesham runner, finishing 87th in 63:13 in a big race of 230 competitors but with a lot of challenges clambering up, down and through the various obstacles on the 6-mile route.

Steve Myerscough finished 6th in a popular Caldervale 4-mile Supper Run on Tuesday evening, clocking 25:26 for the hilly circuit, also finishing 1st M45. Carmel Sullivan was 2nd woman and 2nd W50 in 27th place overall with 28:48. Martin Bates came in 41st credited as 4th M55 but was actually 4th M60, with a time of 30:16. Suzanne Leonard and George Kennedy were 55th and 56th in 31:29 Kerry Eccles was 107th and 2nd W55 in 37:50  and Debbie Myerscough 136th and 3rd W55 in 41:50.

There were a lot of Wesham members out and about at parkrun on Saturday morning and several on holiday at more distant locations. On the home front at Lytham Hall amongst a turnout of 246 runners Lee Nixon was to the fore and he ran 20:36 for an M35 age graded percentage of 65.29%. Keith Wilding ran another new personal best time with 22:27 for an M60 age grade of 72.68%. Ian Nichols Hogg recorded 23:56 for a grade of 53.90% and James Birchall ran 27:32 with 46.97%. Elizabeth Johnson clocked 28:20 for W35 53.65%. Tracey Hulme was back at the South Manchester run in Platts Field and she ran 24:10 for W55 74.90%.  In Preston’s Avenham Park Steve Abbott ran 19:48 for an M40 age grade of 69.95% and Steve Myerscough clocked 20:13 with M45 70.16%. Stuart Clayton recorded 23:56 for an M50 62.12% and Linda Cartwright had 34:03 with a W45 grade of 48.07%. At the Eden Project run at Bodelva in Par near St Austell in Cornwall the Twists tackled the zig-zag course with Kay running 25:24 for W45 65.22% and Stephen 27:44 with M50 54.03%. In Conwy in North Wales Peter Cruse clocked 23:00 for an M55 grade of 67.39% and further round the coast on Anglesey an away squad from Wesham tackled the Newborough Forest run, where David Taylor recorded the 2nd fastest time of the day with 17:51 for an age grade of 72.83%. Steven Gore clocked 19:59 for M35 67.31% and Elliot Costello 22:17 with a grade of 57.89%. Carl Groome recorded 22:34 for an M50 65.36% with Vicky Gore running 27:50 for W40 56.11% and Sue Rigby 34:55 for W45 45.49%. In Blackpool’s Stanley Park Steve Waterhouse returned with a swift 18:35 for M50 79.37% and Dave Marsland ran 23:17 with an M60 70.72%. Suzanne Leonard ran 24:12 for W45 68.46% with Andrew Moore clocking 26:01 and M55 60.09 and Finlay McCalman running 26:51 with M55 57.23%. On the Fleetwood Promenade Martin Bates paced out 23:26 for an M60 grade of 69.63% and Brian Jones clocked 29:09 with M55 54.09%.
