It was a busy week for athletics but quiet for Wesham members. In the Catforth 10k on Sunday Chris Hastwell finished 7th in 38:39 with a great run on a fine sunny if a little windy morning. Steve Abbott was 9th in 39:55 finishing 3rd M40. Steve Myerscough came in 14th and 1st M45 with 41:56. Peter Cruse was 3rd M55 and 22nd overall in 43:34, with Finlay McCalman 70th in 51:52. Sharlan Butcher placed 30th woman and 99th in 60:09.
There was a select few in the Marsden 10 Mile Trail race on Sunday across the Yorkshire moors, the latest fixture in the Wesham Trail Running Championship. Paul Gregory took it all in his stride and finished 8th and 2nd M40 in 1:14:46, with two severe climbs over the moorland circuit. Steven Gore found it challenging but he came in 18th in 1:19:59 with a good performance for 4th M35. Elliot Costello finished well in 68th place in a time of 1:28:47.
John Burns ran the very historic and traditional Blaydon Race on Sunday evening along the Scotswood Road out of Newcastle to Blaydon over 5.4 miles of the Tyne valley, finishing 853rd in this popular event in a time of 41:39, placing 14th M60. Emma Brook was 799th woman and 2457th in 52:53. There were 4168 runners overall finishing glamorously in the Morrisons supermarket car park.
It was a quieter week for Parkrunning for Wesham members on Saturday morning. At the Preston run in Avenham Park Steve Abbott returned the second fastest time of the day with 19:38 for an M40 age graded percentage of 70.54%. Steve Myerscough ran one of his best runs recently with 20:58 for an M45 grade of 67.65%. Paul Carter clocked 29:13 for M45 50.09%. At the Burnley run in Towneley Park David Taylor had the 4th fastest of the morning with 17:47 for an age grade of 73.10%. Vicky Gore ran 26:44 for W40 58.42% with Steven in support with 26:45. The Lytham parkrun had the best turnout with Jonathan Lawson the first finisher in 22:31 with M50 66.03%. Keith Wilding was just short of his recent best with 23:05 for an M60 70.69%. Ian Nichols Hogg ran 23:46 for a percentage of 54.28%. Jack Rayson scored a new personal best performance with 26:04 for a grade of 49.49% and Stephen and Kay Twist ran together for 29:10 with an M50 51.37% and W45 56.80%. Dave Marsland was the sole Wesham runner at the Blackpool run in Stanley Park, clocking 23:18 for an M60 70.67%. Similarly Martin Bates was the only member in the Fleetwood Promenade run, recording 23:18 with an M60 grade of 70.03%. Furthest flung Robert and Lynn Brown were at the Lochend Woods Parkrun at Hallhill in Dunbar; Robert ran 26:57 for M60 60.05% with Lynn clocking 35:29 for W55 52.42%.
