Steve Littler underlined his spectacular return to form with an excellent run in the London Marathon on Sunday, placing 5th M45 and 110th overall in 2:31:28, having passed halfway in 1:14:25. In chilly conditions following the storm of Friday and Saturday David Taylor improved his marathon best to 2:51:52 to cross the line in 1226th place passing the half marathon mark in 1:24:22. Mark Renshall came in 5307th in 3:23:20 for 749th M45, and Thomas Farquhar finished 7707th in 3:34:30 (halfway in 1:43:01). Steve Myerscough finished 12747th and 1557th M45 in 3:54:15 (1:38:48) and Ben Wrigley ran 4:08:00 for 16866th place (1:56:16 halfway).

Ugis Datavs was triumphant in the Blackpool Marathon on Sunday, overtaking many half marathon runners into the finish as he clocked 2:48:18 for a great run on a chilly day. In the accompanying half marathon Simon Denye finished 5th in 1:21:17, a great run for the M45 winning the age category for a pair of small socks by some 6 minutes. Paul Lancashire was 51st with a time of 1:32:18 and Lee Nixon clocked a new personal best time with 1:33:05 for 56th place. Rob Wallace had a great run to come in 106th with 1:40:53. Colin Smy finished 511th in 2:10:50. Chris Haines ran the Blackpool Festival of Running [sic] 10k on Saturday morning in 45:00 finishing 20th. Kath Hoyer finished 71st (no W55 or women’s placing details) in 49:40. Alice Deacon ran 52:20 to finish 97th with a good run, and Nicola Hill was 223rd in 60:08.

A Wesham team hit the West Cheshire 5k race on Friday evening. In a high-quality race Rob Danson finished 21st in 15:06, a good time but a cautious run on a fast course with a challenging opposition and poor weather. Thomas Crabtree finished 226th in 18:00 showing the depth of the field, and Sean Murray, running very well, was 349th with 20:13 paced by Steven Gore given the same place and time. Rob Wallace finished 369th in 20:36; Anne Mayers-Smith was 71st woman and 9th W40 in 22:05 in 407th place, with Vicky Gore 110th and 15th W40 in 25:12, 496th overall. Martin Bates ran 48:36 for 46th place and 3rd M60, and Finlay McCalman came in 113th in 55:17, 11th M55 although classed as a female! Keith Wilding running with his daughter Heather finished 160th in 61:21.

Sharon Cooper and Sara Ward both running well

There were five Wesham runners in the Wray Scarecrow 10k on Sunday, part of the week-long village festivities in Wray. Paul Gregory finished 4th and 2nd M40 in the challenging undulating rural environment with a time of 39:08, a good taster for the forthcoming Kendal AC 10k series starting on Wednesday. Garry Barnett finished 5th in 39:21, 2nd M50.

Numbers were down at the local parkruns in the Fylde, possibly due to the London Marathon, although further afield were better served. Wesham members were out and about again on Saturday morning despite bad weather conditions, and at the Lytham Hall parkrun regular attendant Jonathan Lawson returned 21:59 for an M50 age graded performance percentage of 67.63%. Ian Nichols Hogg ran 22:25 for an age grade of 57.55% and Lee Austin 24:30 for 52.93% and a new personal best performance. Stephen Twist ran 24:56 to record an M50 age grade performance of 60:09%, with Kay Twist running 25:38 for W45 64.63%. Dave Young paid a visit and he clocked 26:30 for an M70 grade of 67.36%. Rhianne Austin recorded a regular 33:33 for 44.11% and Linda Cartwright 33:35 for W45 48.73%. Alasdair Aston clocked 36:16 for an M55 grade of 43.11%. In the South Manchester parkrun Tracey Hulme ran 24:37 for W55 73.53% where there was a big turnout, as so in Preston’s Avenham Park where Steve Abbott was the leading Wesham members with an impressive time of 18:34 for an M40 age grade of 74.60%. Arran Galvin recorded 19:45 for M35 68.10% and Robert Brown an M60 grade of 59.39% with his time of 27:15. The Wesham parkrun tourists travelled to the Hyndburn run at Wilsons Fields where Steven Gore recorded the 4th fastest time of the day with 20:44 for an M35 grade of 64.39% and a new personal best time. Sharon Cooper clocked 26:03 for W45 60.97% as a First Timer and Vicky Gore also had a personal best with 27:36 for W40 56.58%. Warming up for the London Marathon was popular at the Burgess Park run in Camberwell South London. Wesham’s marathon contingent were there in numbers; Carl Groome ran a good 20:05 to return an M50 grade of 73.44% and Elliot Costello an excellent 20:21 for 63.39%. Stuart Clayton clocked 21:40 for M50 68.62% and Ryan Azzopardi had 23:26 for an M35 grade of 57.82%. Sally Deacon ran 34:03 with a W50 grade of 50.47% with Kerry Eccles clocking 31:41 for W55 57.92%. Sue Rigby recorded 42.53% for W45 37.04%. Debbie Myerscough ran 48:09 for a W55 grade of 37.11%. At the Blackpool parkrun in Stanley Park Sara Ward ran 24:08 for a W50 grade of 72:17%, and Antionette Holton recorded 28:03 for a grade of 53.12%. Along Fleetwood Promenade in challenging conditions Peter Cruse ran the third fastest time of the day with 21:21 for an M55 age grade of 72.60%.
