                       Steven Gore going over the top in the Sabden Trail Race

It was a quiet week for athletics in the Fylde area, and Wesham runners had to search around for races last week. In contrast, Tuesday evening this week has seen the fourth round of the Inter Club Grand Prix, where Rob Danson clocked up another win in emphatic style with over a minute and a half lead. Wesham won the Open team category and the men and women’s veteran categories, and 2nd for the women’s team Full results will be in next week’s report.

 

This week three Wesham members took part in the Sabden Trail race on Wednesday in the evening in a lull in the wet weather last week. Steve Myerscough was head of the trio, finishing 35th in 45:02 for the 6 miles, 8th M40. Steven Gore came in 47th in 46:53 after his wrist injury last week, now free of plaster, a valiant effort. Martin Bates seasoned on the fells finished 5th M60 and 104th in 54:03.

 

David Taylor took on a different challenge at the Manchester Mile on Wednesday, held on the track at SportCity. He finished 12th in Heat 7 of 8 in a time of 5:10.83, ranking 17th fastest senior male of the evening.

 

James Mulvany finished 2nd in the second Midsummer Mile race at the Preston Arena, his run timed at 4:58. Lee Barlow was 9th with 5:14, a good performance. Simon Denye ran 5:40 for 20th place.

 

Helen Lawrenson finished 8th woman and 2nd W45 in the second race in this year’s Horwich Jubilee 5 series, with a time of 36:01, placing 68th overall. Nicola Unsworth was 35th woman and 4th W45 in 40:36, 134th overall in his popular race.

 

Kath Hoyer ran the Penny Lane Striders 10k in Liverpool on Sunday, finishing 31st woman and 2nd W55 in 49:22, 192nd overall (49:18 chip time). Dave Waywell was 2nd M70 and 284th in 54:58 (54:49 chip time).

 

David Taylor headed to Blackpool for the parkrun on Saturday morning, and he clocked 17:34 for an age graded performance of 73.62%. Lee Barlow was on good form to run 18:15 for an M45 performance of 77.72%. Peter Cruse ran 19:42 for M50 77.33%, and Helen Lawrenson was second fastest woman of the day with 20:25 for W45 79.35% and a new personal best time. Steven Gore clocked 20:26 for M35 64.93%. John Bertenshaw recorded M60 77.62% with a time of 20:51, a new personal best for this course and Elliot Costello ran well with 21:56 for 58.81%. Nicola Unsworth ran 22:01 for W45 72.82% with George Kennedy M55 71.35% with a time of 22:17. Stephen Browne ran 23:39 for M50 62.86%; Rob Wallace 25:14 for 51.12%; Chris Pike 25:21 with M40 54.64%; Dave Young scored an M65 68.41% with 25:29; Finlay McCalman 27:33 for M50 54.87%; Kay Twist 27:47 for W45 58.31%; Stephen Twist 28:41 with M50 51.42%; Debbie Bell 30:54 and W40 50.92%; Megan Gore ran JW10 41.54% with a time of 41:05; and Vicky Gore 41:17. There was no Lytham Hall parkrun; hence the numbers at Blackpool; in the Preston run Robert Brown clocked 25:22 for M55 62.68% with Lynn Brown 36:16 for W55 49.91%. Ben Wrigley ran the Witton Park run in Blackburn with 26:44 for M35 49.63%.
