Rob Danson started of this year’s Inter Club race series in Stanley Park Blackpool as he finished the last series, leading the race from start to finish despite a determined challenge from Dave Rigby running second claim for Preston. Danson completed the 4-mile double lap in 19:43 to extend his lead to 8 seconds. James Mulvany worked his way steadily up to 10th place with a time of 21:36 with David Taylor a strong run of 22:14 to place 12th. Steve Waterhouse judged a good run and finished 23rd in 22:57, 3rd M45 with Lee Barlow finishing strongly in 24th with 23:01, 4th M45. Steve Myerscough was 31st in 23:20; Ugis Datvas 33rd in 23:25; Garry Barnett in good form 34th with 23:26 and 2nd M50; Paul Gregory 43rd with 23:50 and with Jason Barlow 46th in 23:53 Wesham won the overall team category, a great start to the season.

Helen Lawrenson was 6th woman and 3rd veteran in 26:03; Nicola Unsworth 10th and 7th vet in 27:05; Sarah Sherratt 14th and 11th with 27:23; Kath Hoyer 30th and 21st in 29:55; and Jessica Coulthurst 31st in 30:02 giving the Wesham women third team slot. The Men’s Over-40 team of Waterhouse, Barlow, Myerscough, Datvas, Barnett and Barlow were also team winners, with the M50s Barnett, Peter Cruse (69th and 8th in M50 in 24:51), Nigel Shepherd (105th and 18th M50 in 26:12) and John Collier (107th and 19th M50, 26:13) were 2nd M50s. The M60 team of Collier (4th), John Bertenshaw (5th and 122nd overall in 26:55) and Alan Hudson (6th and 123rd in 26:58) were also 2nd in their category. The women’s veterans Lawrenson, Unsworth, Sherratt, Hoyer and Kerry Eccles (25th and 43rd woman in 31:46) were 2nd W40 team.

The inaugural Wesham Trail Championship continued at the Radcliffe 10km Multi-Terrain race on Sunday and had a good turnout of members. David Taylor was to the fore finishing 3rd overall with a time of 38:27 for the undulating off-road course along old railway tracks and canal banks. Garry Barnett came in 10th in 39:55 placing 2nd M50. Paul Hetherington was 17th in 41:43, 2nd M40, with Steve Myerscough 28th and 4th M40 in 43:48. Series mastermind Steven Gore was 29th with 44:02. Nigel Shepherd finished 4th M55 and 36th overall in 45:02, with Helen Lawrenson 2nd woman overall and 1st W45 in 46:16, 44th overall. Kath Hoyer was 10th woman and 1st W55 in 50:32, finishing 83rd overall. Gemma Owen was 13th woman in 51:26, 90th overall, with George Kennedy 91st and 7th M55 in 51:28. Tracey Hulme was 14th woman and 2nd W50 in 51:53 in 97th place; Alan Taylor 115th in 54:25; Kerry Eccles 33rd woman and 3rd W55 in 56:58 (143rd); Vicky Gore 36th in 57:24 (147th); James Danson 159th with 59:06; Mark Dobson 160th in 59:07; Dave Waywell 3rd M70 and 162nd in 59:12; Debbie Myerscough 49th woman in 1:01:29, 4th W50 and 178th overall; Peter Cooke 226th in 1:08:29.

Carmel Sullivan was first woman in the Fleetwood 10k on Sunday in fresh conditions compared to the warmth of the day before, clocking 43:18 and coming 19th in the race overall.

Jonathan Lawson returned to the Lytham Hall parkrun and he ran 21:47 for an M45 age graded performance of 67.18%. Graham Cunliffe recorded M60 61.20% with a time of 26:12, less than a minute slower than his best for the course, and Kay Twist ran 29:04 for W45 55.73%. Stephen Twist was just behind with 29:07 for M50 50.66% and Clive Berry M50 49.66% with a time of 29:42. Debbie Bell ran 32:28 for W40 48.10%. Steve Myerscough was in the Preston parkrun with 19:39 for an M40 performance of 71.08%; Arran Galvin ran 19:53 for M35 66.27%; and Robert Brown M55 65.66% with 24:13. The Wesham parkrun tourists went to the highly picturesque Fountains Abbey run in Yorkshire; David Taylor clocked up the third fastest time of the morning with a swift 17:41 for 73.14%; Steven Gore 19:59 for M35 65.97%; Megan Gore JW10 51.87% with 32:54 and Vicky Gore 33:00. Martin Bates clocked 22:25 for M60 71.52% in the Fell Foot run at Newby Bridge; with Finlay McCalman running 28:37 for M50 52.82%. Nearer to home Peter Cruse and Carl Groome were neck and neck in the Blackpool run, with 19:38 (M50 77.59%) and 19:49 (M45 73.25%). Helen Lawrenson registered 20:44 for W45 78.14% with Nicola Unsworth 21:30 for W45 74.57%. George Kennedy ran 22:39 for M55 70.20%; Dave Young 24:56 and M65 69.92%; Chris Pike 25:06 and M40 55.18%; Kevin McCumiskey 27:35 for M35 48.76%; Anne Flanagan W55 64.21% with a time of 29:23; Caz Wadsworth 31:52 with W50 53.92%; and Sue Rigby 31:55 and W40 48.93%.
