The ‘Wroaming Wrinklys’

(2006 Edition)

The year 2006 has been a very busy one for the “WRINKLYS”, or should that be “PEOPLE OF ADVANCED YEARS?” What a load of “CODS WALLOP” - I’m sticking to “WRINKLY”.

Firstly anyone can join us in our activities, young, middle aged, old, in fact just come along your guaranteed an enjoyable time, ask anyone who has been with us. You don’t even have to be a member of Wesham RR.

Our “Thursday Runs/Walks” are becoming even more popular nowadays; on one occasion in 2006 there were 22 Runners and 17 Walkers. We have visited umpteen venues in Lancashire and South Lakes. Never content we are always looking for new places to visit; suggestions are always welcome, (no I don’t mean the graveyard!), who said that?

Holidays, we stared 2006 with a mini trip to Tenerife, 10 people attended this one at the end of January beginning of February. The weather in the Canaries never varies throughout the year and true to form it was in the high 70’s again.

In May it was off to Bulgaria, 22 people on this trip to a resort called Sunny Beach on the Black Sea coast. We were blessed with excellent weather once again. The resort compared to any in the Spanish Costas, but inland, it was plain to see the remnants of the Communist influence. If you’re looking for a pint of beer for 30p, cheap denim’s perfumes and watches’ this is the place for you.

August saw 20 of us in Tenby for a long weekend. Most people would not consider Tenby to be the most ‘in’ place, but it is very scenic, particularly the harbour, the surrounding coast and countryside would be hard to beat. Super weather once again.

October and 26 people were basking in hot sunshine in Croatia, Porec, (pronounced Pour-etch), to be precise. This has to be one of the most scenic seaside resorts anywhere in Europe. Our hotel was set in a heavily wooded area, and was about 200 yards from the sea. The whole area is spotless, not a piece of litter anywhere. Places to run, through forests and in and out of the numerous bays are endless. The Croatian people can’t do enough to help you.  If you get the chance to go, you must.

November At the time of writing, (late October), the outings still haven’t finished for 2006. In November we are off on another mini trip to Llandudno. This time it’s a “Turkey & Tinsel” weekend.

It’s terrible being Old & Retired!
