Hello and welcome to the Wesham Road Runners Competitive Miles homepage

.

In 2005 Richard Davies thought it would be interesting to know how many competitive miles we run as a club each year, and who are the individuals that run the most competitive miles. It was agreed by the committee that this was a good basis for a new award, and it was decided that recording would start on 1st December 2005 so that the result would be known in time for the annual Dinner Dance on the last Saturday in November 2006. Recording finished with the Wesham 10k on Saturday 25th November 2006.

In subsequent years recording has started with the first race after the Wesham 10k and concluded with the 10k the next year. So any races taking part in the afternoon of that day, by the time of the Annual Presentations at 21:00 that evening, the next years Competitive Miles is already in full swing!

Richard continued recording the Competitive Miles for three years and preparing the annual presentation, until at the end of 2008 he completed the final sub-total and decided to hand the calculus over to someone else as he had less time to devote to the task. Much of the time had been spent trawling results websites, and as the Press Officer already did much of this for the weekly news, Alex Rowe offered to take on the role.

What the Competitive Miles are all about?

How many miles do you race against other runners in a year?  Do you run more miles than anyone else in the club?  Who is mad enough about running to run the most miles of all?  How many miles does the club run collectively?

These and other questions will be all be answered by the Competitive Miles

The Rules

All races entered by Wesham Road Runners members will count towards the total. The races include all organised races on Road, Cross Country, Fell, Trail and Track, and Inter Club events, Club Handicaps and Relays. These will include local, national and international events. Handicaps organised by other clubs and speed interval training sessions will not be included. Open League meetings such as the Stretford Grand Prix will be included. Measured distances such as relay legs will be recorded as published; cross country and fell distances may be estimated. The distances for the men and women at cross country events will be recorded as run i.e. the women run a shorter course than the men.

All effort will be made by the Competitive Miles recorder to research the races that have been contested by Wesham Road Runners, but it is the responsibility of each member to notify the recorder of the races that they have taken part in to ensure they are recorded. A monthly update will be published with a spreadsheet of all races and competitors recorded, with a summary charting the progress of individuals. However, the intention is not to create frenzy with individuals over-competing to increase their rank within the overall result.

The Prizes

A trophy will be presented to the Man and Woman with the greatest number of Competitive Miles after the finish of the Wesham 10k on the last Saturday of November at the Annual Presentation.

Remember, Competitive Miles can be detrimental to your elusive attempt at a new personal best. Please consult with your GP before you embark on any attempt at increasing your Competitive Miles.

Contact

Please contact the Competitive Miles recorder if your name is missing from the list, and to notify any races that have not been accounted for.
