THE ALTERNATIVE WRINKLY’S

(AGAIN)

Well yet another superb holiday, this time to Mondello, just outside of Palermo on the wonderful island of Sicily.  A holiday that once more owes its success to our Wrinkly Leader, John Whiteman.  John’s prowess at organising and planning every detail is to be commended.  The coach down to Stansted was both comfortable and on time, getting us to the Airport in perfect style, albeit at rather an unearthly hour.  On our arrival in Palermo, it was Mario’s turn to take over the arrangements.  As we boarded the transfer coach he took the microphone and gave us a detailed description of the area, the Hotel Conchiglia D’Oro, and the trips he had organised.  Once at the hotel, Mario took complete charge of everything for us.  He even accompanied the Head Waiter each evening as he came round to take our order for food.

Mario had organised two full day trips; the first was to Palermo and we spent a most enjoyable day touring the City sights.  Dare I mention the Catacombs, what a dead-end place that was!  We saw the Cathedral, the Market and had a superb lunch, (Panini), at a restaurant recommended by Mario.  The trip to Mount Etna and Taormina I believe was extremely interesting, but unfortunately I chickened out at the last minute and I am sorry that I missed it. I am really sorry that I made Michael miss it and I am very sorry to have let the rest of the Wrinkly’s down, but as it turned out to be a 14 hour trip, I think I made the right decision.

The weather was perfect, the beach and surrounding area fantastic, and the Panini’s were delicious.  The Hotel was comfortable, the food superb and the Wrinkly Team, a mixed bag of personalities who together combine to make a great band of travellers, full of fun and excellent company.

Thanks to all of you, but most of all to John, Pam, Mario and Roz for their research and planning, and for once again including us on a wonderful Wrinkly Holiday.
