“TEAM WRINKLY 2007”

As you will see 2007 wasn’t the best of years for the “Wrinkly Wrunners”.

Brian Wilkinson ‘called it a day’ saying almost 50 years of wrunning   was all his body could take, so he decided it would be wise to stick to walking.

Many of the Team were struck down by long-term injuries, including

Tony Wrobbins                   Delboy Goodenough                       Norman Bateman,                       Waymouth.

Pete Earnshaw had bad spells during the year, but

                     Battles on.

Keith Gresty has also cut back on his mileage.

Dave Young & Reg Chapman hit the big 60

Soon                                     and will be helping “Bossman”,

Dougie Brown & Ken Munroe in 2008.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom however, as you will see.

The Thursday “Wrinkly Wruns/Walks have been as popular as ever, during the year we ventured over every corner of Lancashire.

Our first Wrinkly holiday of the year, in May, was to the Algarve in Portugal, what an excellent time we spent there.

                       What was this all about?

In September it was off to Sicily, superb weather once more, excellent scenery and guided tours courtesy of Mario, Roz Jolly’s partner, Roz of course is Helen’s Mother in law.

They know how to go on Holiday!!!

The beginning of October turned out to be Summer 2007, the weather was barmy and for most of the month exceptionally dry.   The Illuminations Run took place with temperatures in the high 60’s; the numbers taking part was slightly down on previous years, possibly due to the change in the start/finish plaice (I couldn’t resist it!), but, almost 30 wrunners and walkers tucked into Fish & Chips, in the Bispham Kitchen Chip Shop.

Some excellent news occurred at the end of October, when “Super Vet” Mike Walsh decided it was time to join Wesham!  Welcome on board Mike, you’re an inspiration to us all.

There was a disaster in October for “Bossman” when I was entrusted with Club Secretary’s whilst on a Wrinkly Wrun in Longridge. They’re in a field so if your ever over that way and find some, please return them to Brian (It was an expensive day!)

We are now into November and looking forward to the Thursday Crowds Christmas Dinner to be held at Calderbank Country Lodge at Oakenclough, Garstang.in December.

What’s in store for “Team Wrinkly” in 2008? First and foremost I hope that all those people who were carrying injuries in 2007 are soon back wrunning. On the Holiday front we are off to the Balearics in May, Majorca to be precise. In September we are planning to go to Estoril in Portugal. There are also mini breaks to Edinburgh, Coniston and the Isle of Man.

Check the Web Site if you would like to join us.

No doubt 2008 will see the Team on other outings.

Lastly from everyone associated with the Older Section of the Club, have fabulous Christmas & New Year and all the best for 2008.

John (Boss) Whiteman.
