Spofforth Gala Trail Race

Monday, 27th August 2007

Scenery:                      - 7

Atmosphere:               - 8 Good atmosphere combined with the local gala

Organisation:              - 8 Very well organised

Beginner friendly:      -7 Not to bad very uneven in places

Do it again:                 - Definitely. Course in the countryside, great laugh after the race doing the games etc and the T tent.

I would not of know about this race if it was not for chairman Dave being injured and he offered me his number and was I glad he did.

The journey down was a big adventure as Chairman Dave got us lost 2 times. “I know the way follow me” he said, “Yehhh right.” Out came the map out side some public toilets said he knew these toilets well!!!!!!!

Eventually after 4 and half hours we arrived at the venue. We could see Kath was very excited as in front of us was a fire engine with yes you’ve got it with firemen around polishing there knobs on there tenders!!!!!!

We caught up with Peter Cruse, Julie Cruse, Mike Walsh, Capt Julie and Michaela. They had set off an hour after us and still got there first..

It was quite bumpy under foot as we set off plenty of holes in the ground from the cows you really had to watch were you were going.

Found the first two miles quite hard going as I had completed the Pendleton Fell race that same week. After a while was soon in my stride and was picking my pace up. As we got to the end of the race there were plenty of people cheering us on as the locals were out joining in the fun with tom bolas and T tents etc.

I finished in 43:37 which I was really pleased with. We had seven runners from Wesham and everyone enjoyed themselves.  Well recommend this race.

We even got Chairman Dave to spend his money on the tombola.  Well I think he did. We all tried winning a pig, must have spent £23.00 trying to win. Yes you’re right - we never won!!
