The Sotos 10k & Fun Run

Sunday, 29th June 2008

My friend, Emily-May, has got Sotos Syndrome.  This means that she grows too fast and because of this she has lots of problems.  Emily-May’s Mummy and Daddy, and my Mummy and Daddy, decided to organise a race and fun run.  This was to raise money for the doctors so they can find out more about Sotos Syndrome.

When we went to races, we took entry forms, and gave them out while we were there.  When entries from runners came through the post, I helped Mum pack the numbers and leaflets about the race.  Then they were sent back to the runners.  Two weeks before the race postal entries stopped and then there were only entries on the day.

It takes lots of effort to organise a race.  The race directors have to make sure that everyone gets a medal or a T-shirt, that there are enough drinks for everyone, that the first aid is correct and loads of other things as well.

The race was on Sunday, 29th June.  I entered the fun run and it started at twenty past ten.  We were at the start line and Dad said, “On your marks, get set, Go!”  We were off!  The fun run was 2k along the Promenade in Fleetwood.  It was windy and this made it hard work.   I ran with my friend, Lizzy.  Lizzy went a bit faster than me and I had to keep going after her.  At the end we both sprinted and I crossed the line before her.  My time was 11 mins and 6 seconds.  I got a medal from Emily-May.

In the main race there were 238 runners.  They all got a T-shirt if they crossed the finish line.  I was given a T-shirt for all my help and hard work.  I think my T-shirt is great.

It was a really fun day and we have raised a lot of money for Sotos Syndrome.
