FRECKLETON HALF MARATHON

What a wonderful race this is. I don’t think that anyone running this race can imagine the effort that go's into it, and especially this year, which a tribute race for Ron Hill. one must take their hat off to organizers, marshals, people manning the water stations and the large crowd who had assembled to cheer and encourage the runners at the start, I am told that there was also an abundance of marshals at the six mile distance, although someone claimed that these were there to make sure that non of the runners made their way into the pub by mistake, as there was only enough beer for the marshals.

At the end of the race, the prize list was also fantastic, as well as a towel for each individual competitor, but to me the highlight of the event apart from the presence of Ron Hill, was giving the second team prize to Royton runners because Wesham were first and second team home, then the wesham team home in second place were given their prize on Monday night at the club. This to me is what running is all about, and what gives Wesham the right to call itself “The Friendly Club”.
