Badger Run 3

    Thursday, 17th July 2008

Even the torrential downpour which continued for most of the day was insufficient to dampen the spirits of runners at the third Badger 10km Trail run in Cuerden Valley Park on Thursday 17th July.

The rain relented enough to give a dry start, although conditions underfoot were still slippery with plenty of muddy puddles to splash through and the river running high.

Tonight saw a new race winner Charlie Pass in just over 35mins, only a minute or so slower than the record, (Steve Littler 34mins).  Competition was strong with Rossendale Harriers, regular supporters of this series, losing out by one point in the men’s team event to Clayton le Moors Harriers and in the women’s team event to Accrington Road Runners.

Joe Johnston of Rossendale was again the U18 winner with another creditable performance to bring him home in 6th place, backed up by Elliott Wylie, Rossendale, but with no third counter for a team prize.  First time Badger entrant Abby Holt, Radcliffe AC was first U18 girl.

All proceeds from the Badger runs go directly to the Lancashire Wildlife Trust in support of our work to protect native wildlife, both habitats and species.  If you enjoy the great outdoors and would like to give further support please join us see www.lancswt.org.uk.

We also encourage corporate membership; perhaps you could put me in touch with a colleague at work contact with whom I could discuss the benefits for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Fourth and final run in this year’s Badger series, sponsored by Neales Waste Management is Thursday 21st August, same time and same place.
