THE JOHN HEARN MEMORIAL HANDICAP
ROLL OF HONOUR
On Monday 1st
September the final Summer Handicap of the year saw the presentation
of the John Hearn Memorial Handicap Trophy to Russell Mabbett
who saw his hard work over the series of six time trials bear fruit with a win
in this year’s event. The trophy has been presented every year since 1987,
so it has quite a history as the list of names below shows. Originally just an
annual event with the handicap calculated from members’ 10k and 5-mile race
times, Marian and Keith Rhead took over in 2002 with the
start of two monthly handicap series, the Winter
one, over street-lit roads, and the Summer version over the lanes around
Treales, culminating with the final event with the trophy presentation.
The 1996
shield has not been engraved so anyone who knows who won it this year please
let us know.
