THE JOHN HEARN MEMORIAL HANDICAP ROLL OF HONOUR

On Monday 1st September the final Summer Handicap of the year saw the presentation of the John Hearn Memorial Handicap Trophy to Russell Mabbett who saw his hard work over the series of six time trials bear fruit with a win in this year’s event. The trophy has been presented every year since 1987, so it has quite a history as the list of names below shows. Originally just an annual event with the handicap calculated from members’ 10k and 5-mile race times, Marian and Keith Rhead took over in 2002 with the start of two monthly handicap series, the Winter one, over street-lit roads, and the Summer version over the lanes around Treales, culminating with the final event with the trophy presentation.

The 1996 shield has not been engraved so anyone who knows who won it this year please let us know.
