It was a gorgeous morning. I left my son playing football with Chris Moss’s children, Daniel and Emma. An hour later, they were still playing! (Watched over by Michaela and Chris’ better half). My son’s jeans were covered in grass stains and he had a party to go to!

The race start is a 10 minute walk away from the pavilion. The first 100 yards of the race is down a muddy path. I’d forgotten how hilly it was, (when you do so many competitive miles, races seem to merge into one!). It was a lot tougher than yesterday’s race at Wray, but I was enjoying it more. I could see Steve Myerscough, Peter Cruse and Bill Eadie virtually all the way round, so I knew I was running well. (I never looked at my watch till the finish). Steve and Pete had also run yesterday at Wray and I knew they were running under par.

I finished strongly, with a possible sub 6 minutes last mile, according to John Bertenshaw who was close behind me. I just overtook a Darwen runner and coasted the last 100 yards or so. Peter brought me a drink of water and told me I’d run well. I must have run well! I ran 39:32 and various runners were saying you could knock 2 – 2 ½ minutes off for a flat course, so I was well chuffed. Emily Dennis, (LSARR), won the Ladies race, (her first win), and she looked as fresh as a daisy at the finish.

Wesham’s first finisher was Lee Barlow

I clapped in the rest of the Wesham squad, took a quick photo, (I was to late to catch Howard Henshaw with just a towel on in the Car Park), and set off for the Cartford,  joined  by Captain Barlow, Pauline Weller, Pete Gleaves, Peter and Julie Cruse. Played Levon at pool and tried to miss the black, but ended up fluking it in! Steve Gregg, (North Fylde), was also playing pool with his son Thomas. (Steve did the British Three Peaks yacht/cycle/run a couple of years ago with his brother in law, Neil Morris)
