Caldervale 4 mile Supper Run

Thursday, 6 July 7:30p.m.

Race is Caldervale 10 in reverse, but at about 2 ¾ miles you turn right at the sign for St Johns Church for a fast run downhill back into the village.

MARTIN’S RACE RATINGS

Do it again:                 Yes

Scenery:                      10

PB:                              N/A

Atmosphere:               6 Another low key race that doesn’t appear to be pushed much. So much so, it’s hard to find any information on it.

Organisation:              10 – plenty of butties, scones, sausage rolls after in the Village Hall.

Value 10:                     £4 to enter

Beginner Friendly:     10- Tough uphill start but plenty of marshals and Mr and Mrs Mike Carter dishing out orange juice at the finish and chatting to all the finishers.

Russ, Pete and I warmed up running uphill towards St Johns Church/school. (Third of a mile?)We were amongst the first there and I was thinking Pete and Russ might come 1st and 2nd!

There was a good Lytham Ladies turn out and a good turn out from our new members, Chris, Sarah and Lisa.

Couldn’t see any Garstang runners at all which is a bit strange for a race on their doorstep. Talking of which, I should have given Charlie a ring!

Dave Clarke was just about to start and Steve Myerscough turned up, scuppering Pete’s chances. I looked round and couldn’t see Russ. I asked Dave Clarke if he minded waiting a sec. I shouted Russ and he ran out of the woods looking sheepish. Alan Taylor said he thought Barry Norman was coming, but alas, no sign of Barry.

Steve went straight into the lead and Pete was hot on his heels. Chris Whitlock had a good start – really attacking the hill and shouting encouragement to Russ. I ran with Emily for the first mile and left her, and another runner tying his shoe laces, on the downhill.

I had a battle with Andrew Fairweather of Bowland passing him on the down hills, but loosing a bit on the up hills. The last mile seems a bit short. I was slightly in front and went for it and his footsteps started to fade through Church Wood past the mill pond. I ran 25:02 – over a minute faster than yesterday’s flat Promenade 4 miler, which must cast doubts over its accuracy.

I met Mrs Carter for the first time. (Mike Carter was one of our founder members). Steve had won his second race in two days and a Red Rose Runner had overtaken Peter in the graveyard for 2nd. Emily was 1st lady and our Sarah Sherratt was 2nd. In a way, Pete was glad Steve had turned up otherwise he’d have been sick loosing the race with a third of a mile to go.

Peter and I got changed, (I couldn’t stop sweating), and went for our butties. Finlay and Steve got seconds.

This is my third race in three days – Carnforth 20 Barriers was my favourite.

1st Steve Myerscough 22:28
