The route leaves Salt Ayre track down the cycle path to the Millennium Bridge and then right for a short loop, under the underpass and follow the old railway line past a disused station, over a bridge to the other side for only 2/3 miles, then back over another bridge and retrace the route back to Salt Ayre.

Good Wesham turn out as usual. I hadn’t run during my two weeks holiday in Majorca and instead of coming back refreshed, I’d felt a bit drained.

I caught up Alan Taylor after about a mile and from then on ran with an unattached lady wearing a PNE away shirt. (sorry). I did my best to sell Wesham Road Runners and she did seem half interested though she lives in Lancaster.

We were going really well and passed a Kendal Lady who won Lowther and also overtook Emily from Lytham. At about 7 miles, I felt a bit hemmed in by a couple of runners in front and I took off. (Kelly finished with 1:33:15). I passed Paul Smith, (from Kendal), who beat me at Lowther. We crossed back over the Millennium and headed for home. All of a sudden runners were on the opposite cycle path heading towards us. I thought for a split second, there must be a fun run, but they were going to fast. It was a different route to last year and we had to virtually run past the Sports Centre and head away again. The last thing you want when the ends in sight! Peter Cruse spotted Peter Waywell trying to catch him at this point and managed to sprint away. Kirsty was there at the finish taking photos, but missed Peter Cooke for some reason!! (He was wearing a black Leeds United top!). She ‘got him’ after at the Presentation.

I stuck a few Wesham 10k forms on car windscreens and managed to scrounge a brew off Simon. Simon also did the Keswick Trail Race yesterday. Pauline Weller was elated. She was grinning from ear to ear. She had achieved her half marathon standard. I think Julie Murphy also achieved her standard.
