The Annual Brussels 20k incorporated the European Custom's Sports Association Championships and two local runners had the privilege to attend. Michaela Dempsey from Wesham Road Runners and Malcolm Eadie from Blackpool Wyre and the Fylde took the trip over with a colleague from the Midlands on the invite of Brussels Customs. Both work for HMRC and took the International trip as a real challenge. In the searing heat, and amid 25,000 runners from all over Europe and beyond, 65 Customs colleagues ranging from as close as Eire to as far as Hungary, battled it out against each other. Dempsey came up trumps and won an individual Gold medal for the UK in the ladies clocking 1:37 just in front of her Italian rival. Eadie gave an impressive performance of 1:10 and claimed an individual bronze. With another colleague from Nottingham the three carried off the UK team prize just in front of the Czech Republic. The winner overall for the men was a Latvian who clocked 1:08 for the 12.4 mile course in and around the city.
