The New Famous Five – minus Scamper the dog.

On a very wet, summer day we set off for a day in the country. As we passed Lancaster the road had turned into a river which didn’t bode well for the fell race. The previous two evenings had involved far too much beer for Graham to attempt a fell race.  Mum decided to carry the food and waterproofs, but Richard had a go. We the ‘Famous Fell Running Five’, (Jack 13, Emma 12, Katy 11, Kelly 9 and Becky 9, in her new Walsh’s), however, were forced to compete. This is our report:

By the time I got to the top of the first hill I could have stopped, I was absolutely knackered. However, I did not stop and recorded a respectable time. I will have to get in some training if I am to continue. Next year I will be in the under 17’s and they look well fast.

I have done a few fell races before but this race has got to be the hardest. The race was straight to the top and back down again. There were a lot of club racers there and I think I could have done a lot better. The climb up was the hardest and the run down was slippy but fun. I think I might have another go at this race next year and see if I can do any better.

Emma Davies (Age 12)

I did a fell race on Sunday 24th June 2007. It was my second fell race. Most of the runners were in clubs and had Walsh trainers on so I thought I did very well. I found the running up the hill quite hard, but I kept in my head that downhill was soon. I overtook a few people on the way down. I think I am going to do another one.

I did a Fell race at Helm Hill. It was not my first fell race but probably the hardest. I liked going down but I did not have as much grip because I had to wear trainers. My Dad says if I want to do some more races he will buy me some proper fell shoes.

On Sunday 24th June I went to a fell race up near the Lakes. I enjoyed this race but I found it quite tricky. This is the second fell race I have ever done. My favourite part of running the race was coming back down the hill. I had got some new Walsh trainers so it was not as hard doing the fell race, because the Walsh trainers have grips on them. I think I will do another one.

PS We don’t have a dog called Scamper, but if we did he would have enjoyed running up and down the hill and barking us on!! Woof, Woof.
