EDITORIAL
Dear Members
Firstly let me apologise for the late publication of
the Spring Edition WRR
Magazine. Time has just flown by and, what with personal
commitments, other problems mentioned later in this editorial*, and the
workload received; it has just not been physically possible for me to get it
published any sooner. Am I forgiven?
At the AGM in February, changes were made in
the Committee which you will see in the Committee Section of this magazine. The biggest
change for me was the appointment of my Peter who has now taken on the responsibility of
the newly created post of Membership
Secretary. Peter takes the club very
seriously and is only too keen to add his help whenever he can. (However,
guess who is going to do the typing?) I can’t imagine what
job we will undertake next, WRR Website, WRR Magazine,
WRR Membership Secretary, Marshalling, running, (not me of
course); it is starting to become a family affair!!!!
A bonus for me was the volunteering of Kirsty Waywell to act as Magazine Coordinator. She has really taken this post very seriously and has already acquired
new advertisers for the Magazine. With Kirsty just living round the corner from me it makes it really easy to get
together and discuss things. We work well together and she is a tremendous
support to me. Welcome on
board Kirsty – you are the greatest! I would also like to offer
my sincere thanks to Chris
Young who has taken on board editing some of your
articles. This also saves me a lot of
time – Thanks a lot Chris. Needless to say we still need members’ input too – I shall say no more.
Our advertisers continue to be
a tremendous source of support for Wesham RR magazine and I sincerely hope
that you can use their services when the need arises. Again I offer them my
sincere thanks for continuing to sponsor us with every issue.
*Those of you on the Internet will have noticed that our website has been rather disjointed lately and
some articles, and photographs,
submitted during my holiday break, are still missing from the site. This is
because I have recently had the distressing and very worrying news that our Internet Host has withdrawn
its support of Microsoft
FrontPage, which is the software through which I design and
create our website. I have been operating the website through FrontPage for the last
five years and George Flanagan did so before me. They gave me
one week’s notice, just before I went on holiday! (Not the done thing wouldn’t
you say?) On my return from holiday I have spent days, (and nights), trying to
resolve the situation. I have had tremendous support from George Flanagan and Alex Rowe. I think we are making progress, albeit slowly, as Alex and George found a way to
publish using a method called FTP, (File Transfer
Protocol for the uninitiated). It may take a little time to
sort out so I would ask, please, that you all be very patient and I apologise
for any inconvenience this may cause. You know I don’t like being beaten on
anything regarding the website so I will get to the bottom of this, believe me.
This Spring Edition Magazine has been my priority since returning from holiday and, as that it is now
published; I will address the problem of re-publishing and re-organising the WRR website. Just
recently this new method seems to be working although it does not like certain
features of FrontPage e.g. “buttons” so I have
removed some of them from the Homepage. It may be that eventually, when I get my head around this new method,
certain other changes will be made to make it easier to publish so I guess is
it a case of “Watch this space”. Again thank you for all your kind messages of support. It is these kind
thoughts of members that keep me believing that all my work is worthwhile. I
don’t think my life was ever meant to run smoothly – but it would be nice!
Well, here it is at
last and I sincerely hope you all think it was worth waiting for. Thank you to all members
who have contributed to this Spring
Edition. I think you
will agree we have some very new and interesting articles from members who have
never written anything before for our Magazine but who, I am sure you will agree, have done
a wonderful job. Also we have a new series in the Memories Section from Tom Hurst, a friend of Martins from Norcross. Even as a non-runner I found this a very interesting read and look
forward to the forthcoming instalments. Keep them coming folks………!

Fond regards and best wishes
