EDITORIAL

Well here we are, another year nearly over, doesn’t time fly when
you’re having fun? First and foremost I apologise for the late publication of
this edition. Peter and I have had such
a busy few months and it doesn’t end there. November also is a month packed with engagements and functions to
attend; it being the month my dear husband reaches his milestone of ‘three
score years and ten’. (That’s 70
yrs old by the way!) Knowing Peter
as I have for over 50 years now, apart from his hair of course, he hasn’t
changed much – thank goodness.
As I am making apologies at this point I have another to make.
Unfortunately time being taken up with one thing or another since we got back
from our holiday with the Wrinkly Gang
in Turkey, I have not had time to write up my usual report. Sorry John, you will have to rely on a good
brandy to send to you sleep for the time being. However, I shall write it up
for the next edition – promise. By the way, I must thank all those concerned
members who got the rogue email telling them I had been mugged in
This edition of the magazine pays tribute to our retiring Vice Chairman, Dave Young. Dave is an
essential cog in the running of Wesham
Road Runners and has given many years of dedicated service to the club. As
Dave will be resigning his Vice
Chairmanship in February of next
year, I felt the time was right that we should now all celebrate his
contribution to the club by paying him this tribute. He is especially known for
his “Mud, Sweat and Spikes” awards. Your
will find all the personal tributes to Dave
on page!! of this magazine.
Another wonderful tribute was paid to myself this year when, as Website/Magazine Editor, I was asked to
join the Committee. (I think Peter was relieved as he will now not
have to pass my comments on as I will be able to do them for myself.) Wesham Road Runners is such a huge part
of our lives and I feel extremely honoured to be included in the Committee. Thank you so much.
A little information which some of you may have wondered about is “Why
does Brenda embolden certain words?” Well, I’ll let you into my
reasoning for this. If I were to publish the magazine with the items written in
columns like a newspaper, first it would take up far more paper to produce and
cost a lot more to print but, on the other hand, the reading of an article may
be a little easier on the eye. Therefore, to stop readers getting bored with
continual text of having to produce it in A4
form I embolden certain words to break up the eye contact, so to speak. I
was told this trick by a tutor I once had when at college. Hope this now makes
sense.
On a negative note I am sorry to have to say that many of our
advertisers are now dropping off and the finance they provide to cover the
publication of this magazine will naturally be a great loss to us. If you know
of anyone who has a business that could be persuaded to advertise with us
please get in touch with my right hand man, Steve Myerscough, who will be only too pleased to send them all the
relative information. We really do need more revenue to keep producing the
magazine to the standard it is now.
I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the lads at the Blackpool & Fylde College Printing Room
for their swift and excellent service throughout the year. Special thanks go to Craig
who is usually put in charge of our printing.
All it remains for me to say
now is – Enjoy your read.
Cheers – Brenda WRR
Publications Editor
