Here are the final XC updates for the 2008 / 2009 season

Dateline: - Saturday 14th March 2009

Venue: - Witton Park, Blackburn

Event: -   Mid Lanc's XC

Fine weather and a revised course welcomed all for the final Mid Lanc's event of the 2008/2009 season. As neither the ladies nor the men's teams, fighting for promotion or to stave off relegation the atmosphere, was relaxed until the details of the revised course sunk in. Although both senior races were shorter than previous seasons severity made up for the shortfall in distance, the traditional loop of the school playing fields being replaced by a steep climb prior to the saucer which, having had no time to recover, made the saucer an even more daunting prospect, this was welcomed by a mad few.

Positionally the Wesham Ladies finished 3rd overall, Div 2 and 11th overall Div 3, 4th Vet 35's and 3rd Vet 45's.

The men’s team finished 5th Div 1 and 3rd Div 3 overall, 4th Vet 40's and 1st Vet 50's.

Individually, only Alex made an impression taking the 2nd Vet 50 prize.

Considering injuries to key players throughout the season the team results were encouraging with everybody stepping up to the mark and doing their utmost for the cause.

Your Dear Leader Alan

Dateline: - Monday 16th March 2009

Venue: -   Garden Restaurant

Event: -   The 2008 / 2009 season Cross Country presentation night including the Mud, Sweat and Spikes award.

Thirty two hungry Wesham Road Runners attended the annual Cross Country presentation night held at the Garden Restaurant. As always Penny did us proud on the food front with something to suit all.

Having sat and watched Dave Young run the same event, over the past years, it was now down to your Dear Leader to run the show. I decided early on to keep things short and sweet in order to quell any dissent in the ranks. As I didn't receive any complaints I can only take it that the troops were happy with the proceedings.

Awards wise, they went to the following:-

Lady overall, Julie Cruse, Lady Vet 35, Michaela Dempsey, Vet 40, Carmel Sullivan, Vet 45, Julie Cruse and Vet 50, Marie Wyld.

Mens awards went to the following :- Mens overall, Alex Rowe and Charlie Pass, (dead heat on points ), Vet 40, Mark Midgley, Vet 45, Peter Gleaves, Vet 50, Alex Rowe, Vet 55, John Collier and Vet 60, Dave Young.

The Mud, Sweat and Spikes award went to a well deserving Dave Young.

All in all a most successful night, and roll on the 2009/2010 season.

Your Dear Leader Alan
