TRIBUTES TO DAVE YOUNG
TRIBUTE TO DAVE YOUNG
This magazine pays tribute to our retiring Vice Chairman, Dave Young. I have known Dave for some time now and had the pleasure of working with him
producing the Cross Country Tables, publishing
them on the WRR Website and in the WRR Magazine. Dave has always been very efficient in submitting any information
which makes my job that much easier. Thanks
for that Dave – much appreciated.
The club has always been a special place for Dave and he is dedicated to keeping the high standards of the club.
He also arranges theatre visits for those members who are interested. Peter and I have enjoyed his company at
many of these visits along with other Wesham
members.
‘Mud, Sweat, and Spikes’ have been Dave’s “baby” and he has been a very loyal and dedicated to
promoting cross country running.
He is a quiet man but, when pushed, will always offer up his
opinions and contribute to the efficient running of the club.
Enjoy this tribute Dave – you
so deserve it.

TRIBUTE TO DAVE YOUNG
Wesham running club has a number of dedicated
people who work hard for the club, on more conscientious than Dave Young. After my year long injury
in 2009, Dave offered to run with me
as I tried to recover my stamina, which was non existent, and so he showed a
lot of patience as I had to walk a number of times but he never
complained.
After my 2007 Marathon, Dave thought that I should have had a memento for my time,
and he personally phoned the

Tribute to Dave Young (Simon)
Where does anyone
start, when it comes to paying tribute to Dave
and his contribution(s) to ensuring the success, of
It's safe to start
by saying, if there is such a thing as the "ideal
club member" - well, Dave
is that person, always there to lend an helping hand. Very few people within the Club have been more involved or have
done more, than he has done, over the years.
Dave has
always been there whether it be organising events, helping set-up the courses
at Club races, being involved in
organising numerous extra social occasions outside running, the list goes on
and on.
Chairman, Vice Chairman, X Country Captain, Committee Member, Dave has
been there, done that. Whatever Dave
has turned his hand to, in regard to Wesham
Road Runners, the outcome has been first class.
At Committee Meetings, when difficult
decisions have been needed to be taken, he has been the mediator, the voice
that everyone respects, to put it simply the voice of common sense.
Unfortunately Dave has decided to step down from his Committee work, I personally and I'm
sure most Club Members would, like
me, wish that he would reverse his decision, however, I respect his decision he
deserves a break. Knowing Dave as I
do, I'm sure that won’t stop him still getting involved in all things Wesham.

Dave is a fantastic ambassador for the club and
very popular and sociable. He is such a lovely man. He is quiet and unassuming
and yet very popular.
Dave is a very loyal member to the club and
will be missed on the wesham committee for his enthusiasm, and dedication.

A TRIBUTE TO
DAVE YOUNG
For my sins, I have been a member of Wesham Road Runners for 18 years and therefore I have known Dave for all of that time as he is
actually celebrating 20 years as a
member this year.
On the running front we have always been pretty similar and so we
have battled each other and swapped PB’s
many times over the years. He has always represented Wesham in cross country, road relays and, of course, like the rest
of us, promoted the club by turning up at races with his Wesham vest in hundreds of races, probably too numerous to recall
When he was kind enough to request that the Committee put my name forward for carrying the Olympic torch he included in his nomination e-mail to the Olympic committee everything that I had
done for the club. Well that’s as maybe, but Dave, as far as I am concerned, you have done a lot more than I
have.
The AGM was always the
last Monday in January until I got a rollicking off my boss for daring to go home
at 6-30 on the last Monday in January one year, (pretty hectic month
in Accountancy practices), and it was then changed to the 2nd Monday in
February.
In 1996 both Dave and I joined the Committee –
he as Chairman and myself as Treasurer - and our first Committee Meeting was supposed to be 5th February. However, Dave’s first job as Chairman was to ring round all the Committee to inform them that the
meeting was cancelled because the
Dave has virtually had an unbroken run of 16
years on the Committee. He
definitely deserves a break next year. From memory these are just some of the
positions he has held.
As well as this he has organized a number of events for the club
over the years including:
1.
Road race championships for so many years I cannot remember
2.
T
shirts for the 10k and anniversary
3.
Dinner dance for a number of years
All in all Dave has been
an inspiration to me personally. He is always ready to lend a hand and help
other club members. We all wish him many more years of pounding the pavement.

TRIBUTE TO DAVE

Suffice to say, if
the world was populated with people of the same character as Dave Young it would be a far better
place.

TRIBUTE TO DAVE (DAD) YOUNG
Dave started running almost immediately after the birth of our
first daughter and with the arrival of daughters number two and three, his
running career intensified. I am certain, however, that this was mere
coincidence. It is true though that, some thirty years later, I am a fully
qualified ‘grass widow’. Not only do I lose him for whole days and many
evenings to the delights of track, road, mud and grass but I also have a garage
full of ‘resting’ trainers, a conservatory adorned with ‘active’
trainers and a washing machine permanently full of running kit.
All joking apart though,
it is very clear to me that Wesham
and its members are very dear to Dave’s
heart. He has given to the sport in general
and to the club in particular, all the commitment, dedication and quiet
resolve which he brings to those other great passions in his life, namely
cricket, politics and his family. Running gives him enormous personal pleasure
and fulfillment and I know he has made very many good friends by whom he is
held in respect and affection. In return for those benefits, Dave has, in my opinion, given a great
deal back to the sport, through his many years of hard work as a member of the Committee. Therefore, Dave, when I complain about trainers,
boxes of t-shirts, kit and absence, know that I am really saying how much I
admire your commitment and your contribution. We are all very proud of you.
