THE VIEW THROUGH MY OLD EYES

Where as 2006 gone?  No sooner have I got used to putting ‘06’ on cheques than I have to re-programme my brain to put ‘07’. So before I start, let me promise you that this report will not be too long as this must be the quietest period for running clubs that there is.

First of all though, let me start by saying what a superb job Andy and Sally Yelland did with the race and equally the job Derek Goodenough and Celia Gregory accomplished with the Dinner and Dance. For all these organisers it was a first time and, on behalf of you all, I would like to say how much it was appreciated and thank them very much indeed.

So now what happens in the next few weeks? Well first of all there is the AGM which you will find details of within these pages; all I will say is please do your best to attend as it is determining your future with the club. One item of news is that we are having to look for a new HQ as it is possible that inside the next 12 months we may lose our use of the school due, in the main, to the withdrawal of funding from the government for some school activities including community use but nothing, as yet, been decided. However we are going to prepare for the worst case scenario so get yourself to the AGM and watch this space closely.

A little bit of good news happens soon, and that is the “Rudolf Red Nose Race” being organised by ourselves and the Lancs Fire AC. Sunday 24th December is the date and entry forms are available from the website or me personally, (especially if you have missed the closing date and, no, there are definitely no entries on the day whoever you are). We do need helpers on the day so if you can possibly help give me a ring on 01253 357637 or just turn up on the day. There is also another race we are heavily involved in and that is the St Annes 10 miler held this year on the 4th March. Again we need helpers so give me a ring about that also and do not forget these two races will put some money into the club’s coffers so you do all benefit in one way or another.

Hopefully the new club Fell Championship details will appear in this issue. It is thanks to some very good help from several members who have assisted the organiser, Lee Barlow, in putting together a package which I hope you will find both useful and exciting. If it is as exciting as the Competitive Mileage competition organised by Richard Davies for the first time last year, then we are in for a treat.

As always both Dave Young and Kath Hoyer have tried to give everyone early notice of the Road Race and Age Related Championship races, but again there are always unexpected changes to events which create a problem with the original race calendar. This year is no exception to the rule so please check up to date bulletins on these two event calendars to ensure you do not miss out on the points available at them.

That really is as much as I want to say for now, except to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy 2007. Also the wish that all those of you who are presently injured or recovering from injuries are soon back with us fit and well but we do think of you all and look forward to seeing you on the starting line soon in 2007.

My last thought is to take the opportunity to wish Alan Taylor and his family ‘Bon Voyage’ as they cross the world to start a new life in Australia. Alan has given many of us in the club some wonderful memories thanks to his organising of so many trips to events throughout the UK and there is no doubt he will be missed. I am sure when he has gone, there will be many times when the phrase “PIE MAN” will be used affectionately in memory of some really great times.
