ANNUAL PRIZE PRESENTATION EVENING & DINNER DANCE

Saturday, 28th November 2009

Feedback from lots of the people who attended our event held last November at Ribby Hall Village, indicted that it was a resounding success. Most agreed that the four Course ‘sit down’ meal was exceptional with prompt waiter/waitress service.  Our Chairman, Dave, ably assisted by Kath, presented the prizes in their own inimitable, efficient way and a different Disco presenter gave a fresh impetus to the dancing fraternity.

So now it’s time to move on and think about the 2010 function i.e. where do we hold it this year, what price are we prepared to pay and are we happy with the structure, etc. etc.

Because club members who are likely to support the Dinner Dance, generally live in two separate areas of the Fylde, (the North and the South), it is sound thinking to believe that we should alternate the event from year to year. This ensures that high transport costs to a venue, in either of these two regions, are not borne by the same group every year.

O.K., having said that I have recently been exploring potential venues for 2010 in the North Fylde region. Perhaps a change from, our hitherto used, North Euston Hotel at Fleetwood might be a good idea. Well I must report that, after making numerous telephone calls to venues which have been suggested by others, or where I myself thought would fulfil our requirements regarding location, size and/or acceptability – I’ve drawn a blank.  The cost at most of the places I have enquired is absolutely prohibitive and our need for sit down meal/bar/dance floor for circa 80 people produced a negative at others.

I have therefore concluded that the North Euston Hotel at Fleetwood is still, by far, our best option and have now made a confirmed booking. I’ve negotiated a 4 course ‘sit down’ meal to cater for 80 – 100 people, where the cost will be no more than what we paid at Ribby Hall for the 2009 event, i.e. £23.00 per head. I am always aware that keeping the cost at an affordable figure is of paramount importance – I have to sell the tickets!

I know that most of you are still getting over the Christmas 2009 activities and that 27th November 2010 is a long way off, but I would ask you to take note of the date, mark it in your diaries and tell your friends that at Wesham Road Runners we are not just a group of people who can run very well but we are great socialites with long and proud traditions.  Get them to come along and experience our friendliness and style. Perhaps they might want to join WRR as a result.

Hope to see you all at the North Euston Hotel, Fleetwood on the 27th November 2010.
