2006 Report – Men

The  recently  published  2006  Wesham  Road  Runners  Ranking  Lists  reflect  the  dramatic  improvement  in  the  performances  of  the  clubs  athletes.

 

In  total  124  Wesham  members  are  ranked  in  these  lists a  magnificent  effort  that  everyone  involved  in  the  club  can  be  proud  of.

 

In the Men’s 10k Rankings 79 members successfully completed a measured course.

With 34 running under the 40minute barrier.

 

Topping the rankings for the fourth year in a row was Steve Littler who ran 32:12 at Langdale in December. Alex Rowe ran 33:50 also at Langdale to take 2nd place in the rankings and also be the leading vet, and Charlie Pass was 3rd with his 34:09 timing at Hawkshead in June.

 

Other notable Veteran performances came from Peter Cruse 36:48 [V-40] Gary Pendlebury 35:48 [V50]  Alan Hudson 36:58 [V-55]  Dave Waywell 37:40 [V-60] and Doug Brown 46:47 [V-65].

           

In the Men’s 10 mile Ranking list 59 members were ranked compared to 51 last year, with 41 breaking the 75minute barrier and 8 breaking the hour.

 

The leading 10 mile performance came from Steve Littler who stopped the clock at 53:13 in the Preston race on November, 2nd and leading vet was Alex Rowe with his 56:09 at the vets championship race at St-Annes in October and 3rd was Charlie Pass who ran 56:40 at Garstang in December.

 

Outstanding veteran performances came from Russ Mabbett 1:00:16 [V-40]   Barry Peatfield 59:26 [V-55] Dave Waywell 1:01:52 [V-60] and Tony Robbins 1:18:23 [V-65].

 

The Half Marathon Ranking list was topped by Steve Littler who ran 1:11:36 at Helsby on January, 2nd with his 1:13:07 run in Austria in March was Alex Rowe and 3rd in 1:16:46 at Freckleton in June was Les Cornwall.

 

54 men completed a half-marathon in 2006 compared to 46 last year; 26 of these ran faster than the 90 minute benchmark.

 

The Marathon distance was completed by 16 Wesham men during 2006 with 9 beating the 3:30 barrier.

 

Once again the leading Wesham athlete was Steve Littler who ran 2:28:25 in April’s London Marathon, also running in the Capital was Alex Rowe whose 2:46:16 gave him 2nd in the rankings and 3rd with his 2:53:24 in Barcelona was Russ Mabbett.

 

These rankings show that Wesham Road Runners go from strength to strength, and further improvements are expected in 2007.
